Beautiful

Royals!

I've always liked 189 -- indeed, very royal looking!

And really great machines!! I also have a 189 with attachments and the original cloth carrier, but it's not running right now. And my son just bought a 408. Looks just like your 401, except it has a cord halo on the back and the attachment carrier on it. And boy, what power for such a small machine!! The day it arrived he started vacuuming the living room with it as soon as he unpacked it, then I amazed him by picking up a 16 lb. bowling ball with it. And of course, you already know about my 903. Thanks for sharing the great photos with us!!

The Royal Family

Great looking Royals Morgan! I have the same 401 Pony, I bought it for my mom back either in the late 70's or early 80's, she rarely used it, favoring her Eureka ESP. I have the Electro Hygiene power tank in baby blue with the first Royal power nozzle that's shaped like a manta ray. What a great cleaner, it has a full size upright rollerbrush, and so quiet. I got it from Fred S. at the STL convention, he even sent me the cordwinder later, rare! I have the last Royal Powertank in the maroonish color similar to the Legend II, and you're right, what a cleaner! My only Royal upright is a model 602, not sure what year but in really good shape. My first connection with the Royals was back in the 50's, my uncle had two of them he used to clean his supper club in Schiller Park. I remember asking him why he didn't buy Kirbys, like I grew up with, and he said he was able to get the Royals cheaper, and they were lighterweight and easier for my aunt to use. He traded them every 3 or 4 years for new Royals, he swore by them. Back home I never saw a Royal, I guess they didn't "play in Peoria!"

Morgan...

Thanks for posting pics of your Royal family. I still think my favorite of the group is the Electro-Hygiene. I really like the color combo the best on that one. I have a hand held too...mine is blue and from about 1987...my dad bought it for my mom for her birthday (yikes!) so she could do the steps in our home. She did not like using our DAM on the stairs and would never use the tools for that job either. In fact it was the steps that caused the housing to break on the DAM. The Royal "prince" idea lasted about a month and rarely got used. I have it tools and all when mom was ready to throw it away. It is a very high quality machine and works well on my stairs! Great photos, Morgan!
