Although it's a bit different to the pre-war Hoovers I usually collect, I saw this Electrolux 345 at the market yesterday, and for £4.50 I couldn't resist - even if it meant carrying it all the way across town and spending more money getting a bus home!

Unfortunately, only the extention tube it came with is original, the hose and floorhead are generic spares...I actually used to have one of these a long time ago, which was all-original...unfortunately, it was skipped.

It's cleaned up pretty nicely, all the paint-scuffs came off with a little white spirit and some furniture polish, and the motor runs like new. Washed the filters, changed the bag etc...just need some original tools for it now!

Also, can anyone explain what the dial on the front is for? I'm assuming it's a way of altering the point at which the motor cuts out when the bag is full? It's calibrated slightly differently than the one I used to have - it has a series of lines, rather than being numbered...

Hi there James, thanks so much for bringing that one to my attention! Looks like a certain other high-paying collector's already locked his eyes/wallet on it, so it may not come cheaply...I'll have to see how my finances are going when the auction ends!!

Thanks again! :)

PS - Seamus tells me the lines on the dial make it an early machine from this model's long production run...I love the colour scheme, looks like it's made from chocolate and toffee!

Before the Z345

There was the Z330. This only ran fron 73-75 making it much rarer than the 345- especially boxed and original like this one(I do have the extension rod- it was AWOL for these pics tho)

SEAMUS!!!

OMG- you have the elusive library brush (for dusting books) we've been talking about in another thread! Whatever it's called on your side of the pond, it's that brush attachment fitted to your crevice tool. It appears to have been standard issue with the 330, too.

If you ever find any of those as spares, be sure and remember those of us over here in the Colonies, LOL! That brush was available in Canada as an option, but was not available in the U.S. at all. Evidently someone at Electrolux felt that the English could be relied upon to have books, that Canadians sometimes had them but not always, and that we Yanks didn't read at all, LOL.

That brush makes Baby drool!

Radiator Brush?

I think they might call it a radiator brush. That is what Miele calls it. They make one in the same configuration as that. Now that combo duster in a black and white color scheme is what caught my eye.

That's an incredible set, Seamus - I think out of all the cleaners I have, only my Hooverette is totally complete with original box, manual, tools etc...

The Z330 looks pretty much identical to the 345, but with a different colour scheme - was it the same wattage (750w), etc? Certainly it's great to have a rare cleaner as such a complete set!

A brush by any other name...

In the Canadian literature, this brush is referred to as a "library brush."

Seamus:

Well, you've an opportunity to make a few quid off some Yank and Canadian collectors, I should think! That brush is very rare over here. I know I'm looking for one, and there are probably two other people on this group who'd fight wild tigers to own one, too.

I've even searched sites for vacuum spares in the UK, without success yet. Perhaps Unifit still make it?

Ah well. Someday, someday...
