In a past thread, it was mentioned that kirby was going to introduce a new model with a different style emtor. I found this youtube video, uploaded last month, with what appears to be a sentria complete with a totally different emtor. Maybe it's a trick of the eyes, but I think it is different. I also believe it looks similar to a picture uploaded in that last new kirby thread. See for yourself.

Emtor is different

I paused the video and took a snipping of it - it is different on the bottom for sure.

OMG, does this guy blather on and on or what? Someone love the sound of his own voice. For someone who sold Kirby Diamonds he seems to have forgotten how they are put together. He keeps calling it 'the Sentra', he does not know that there is an 'I' between the 'R' and the 'A'. Hay, it's pronounced Sen-Tree-a. I'm sorry, but this was PAINFUL to watch.

Maybe

I was just thinking, since they used the new emtor at the end of the sentria run, does that mean the new kirby will in fact be totally redesigned? Will they make a new "G" machine with the new emtor and other updates perhaps? Guess I'll just have to wait and see.

Zip Brush Redesigned Also

This is from goodvac.com - they restyled the Zip Brush also...

changes...

These changes may signify the transitioning to a new model. It could be like them using new gray wheels at the end of the run on the 515 without them being officially introduced until the redesigned 516.

Emptor change

pr-21's profile picture
This is just my own thought. I don't see why they would change the emptor if a total model change is coming out. Why not leave it alone for the rest of the Sentria run. Now if their is going to be another g series model, than I could understand the emptor change, since Kirby is always trying to improve their machines. This would be the 3rd emptor change in the G series.

I have to agree that this was very painful to watch! This guy just doesnt shut up, and his amazement by the "CD" blows my mind. This shmuck said he sold the Diamond Edition, well my Diamond Edition came with a DVD, welcome to the 21st century where we have DVDs and BluRays, and the DVD was unchanged between the Ultimate G and the Diamond Edition. I thought the G6 even came with a DVD too. I did get a good laugh out of the comments that were left on his page and I can only guess by their content that they were from fellow forum members. Plus, he couldn't even attached the handle assembly correctly, how difficult is it to just pop it into place?! There is no need to depress the button, thats only to release the handle. He must not have been that successful as a salesman. hah

I will give him credit that at least he has the knowledge and abilty to appriciate a well made high performace machine, and he is right that it could possibly last him close to a lifetime. Now if only someone here could teach him how to make a proper YouTube video to proudly display his new vac. This guy made me laugh out loud a few times so I guess he gets a few extra points for that too.

Did anyone else notice that the zipper on the bag seems to run perfectly straight down the middle of the bag, like the the G3-G6 models? I havent used a Sentria yet but the ones I have seen online have the same style, almost half moon like zipper, that the Ultimate G and Diamond Edition had. The zipper set up on my Diamond works just fine, but I think the traditional vertical zipper right down the center of the bag may be easier for installing the new cloth HEPA bags. Im always neverous that the zipper will catch the edge of the bag no matter how careful I am while zipping it up.

@bimmer740:

There were 4 sentrias at a local pawnshop a while ago- two of them had the zipper going straight down the bag.

I think the view of the Kirby "Sentria" that man was uncrating-was a trick of the eye-if you keep watching you see a full view of the bag and emptor as he passes it by the camera.Same one as always. That Man showing his new machine----WHAT A KLUTZ!!If he was a dealer bet he didn't sell many machines-"oh its only picking up dirt in the carpet--not on top-because the nozzle is sealed"But YOU KLUTZ-you didn't activate the roller brush!!!I don't hear it turning-no wonder why his Kirby isn't picking up good.this film clip is an Embarrasement!!esp to that man.He needs to delete that one and redo it.and according to the Kirby salesbook I have you can sell the Kirby for whatever price you want-just so long its not more than what is marked on the package! If you sell it for more-Kirby can drop your franchise.Surprized he couldn't order the machine from Kirby since he was a dealer-know of a few former Kirby dealers that do it.Don't think he was really a Kirby dealer.

..

I saw the full view but I think it looks different too. It kind of seems more "cartoonish" looking from the top side than the old emptors. Also, it looked to me like the bag may be closer to the exhaust port.

Zipper

eurekastar's profile picture
The new Sentrias do have a straight zipper. The curved zipper was introduced to give fuller access to the bag because of the twisting motion required when installing a dust bag. However, when Kirby introduced the F-Style bag, the twisting motion was eliminated so they went back to a straight zipper. Plus, I'm sure it's easier to produce!

F Style - Zipper

I don't know if this helps but my Sentria came with the F Style adapter and it has the curved zipper in it, not the straight zipper. I got my Sentria in 11/2009.

What a joke. If everyone really wants to know, the wholesale price of a Kirby is somewhere between $385 and $425. I have heard both figures- I know for sure that the G5 was $385 because I bought a good many new old stock ones back in the early 2000's. You can usually squeeze a Kirby dealer down to $600 on a really slow month.

The sad part of the folks who pay an arm and a leg and finance are those who can't afford bags/belts. We recently had a woman bring in a Sentria with a broken fan that Kirby refused to fix under warranty. She paid for the fan replacement and labor and mentioned she had 4 more payments before the machine was paid off...its a sad feeling to think that she likely financed the thing for 48-60 months.

Well...

kirbymodel2c's profile picture
Hi, Well A kirby don't wholesale over here for anywhere near as low as that price.

Also I'm not suprised Kirby refused to replace the fan on her Kirby Sentria. Picking up things she should not have been is what would of broke it.
No vac under gaurantee covers user error. Even if they choose to pay for it in instalments.Even tells you in the DVD not to pick up large objects

Wholesale price...

In 1997 I was working for a Kirby distributor running the shop. One of our neighbors came in one morning and handed me some mail that he received by mistake. He thought it was a bill, opened it and gagged at the 'amount due'. After rereading it, saw it was ours and brought it over. After he left I looked at it, the boss would have had a fit if he knew. He was paying $329 per unit for the first shipment of G5s. I would really like to get a new Sentria, but I'd never pay the full asking price. I don't think I'd be willing to pay much more than $600 or $700.

Kirby Sentria & changes...

a007kirbyman's profile picture
Hello all.

There have been numerous changes made during the present model's (Sentria) production run.

The dates are approximate, depending on when they (changes) actually went into production. Most of this information is per memos or letters from from Kirby.

(Circa)

2007 xx ~~ New Handi-Butler discontinued
2007 xx ~~ Redesigned Zipp Brush (only recently released due to prior inventory)
2008 02 ~~ Two (2) New Pet Owner Brushrolls introduced (G3/4 & G5/G10)
2008 12 ~~ Polymer base pan
2008 12 ~~ "F" style bag top adaptor & bags
2009 12 ~~ Straight zipper
2010 09 ~~ New style Mini Em-TorŪ
2010 11 ~~ New LED headlight, circuit board & harness assy

There have been a few other minor changes during production as well. (ie: slide bracket wedges, etc.)

Steven,
...the DVD was introduced approx. mid-model on the Ultimate G.

As Bill mentioned above, with the "F" style adaptor it is easier to attach the bags; so after a trial period of time, Kirby has since then went back to the straight zipper.

Bud,
...you are correct, changes DO NOT ALWAYS INDICATE a model change is at hand. And Kirby does strive to make improvements during production.

I hope this info. helps clarify a few things.

Cheers & hagd all,

Bill

Ps: As a side note,

...Kirby did have a "headlight bulb, burnout" issue with the Diamond Edition. That was very briefly, & was rectified with a change of bulb wattage. However, I am NOT aware of, nor have I ever seen a 'motor burn out issue' in the Diamond Edition.

If there was an issue, I would love to see documentation, as there was never a memo or letter from Kirby that there was an issue.

Numerous times over the years, I have had someone bring in a machine (Kirby) that they had somewhere else to be possibly repaired, & they were told that it was the motor or the transmission or something else ($$$) was bad, ONLY to be SHOWN/TOLD by me that it was something real simple.

As an example I've had people bring in machines that they were told the motor was shot!!! ...only to take it apart, & all it needed was new carbon brushes.

Bill- I thought somewhere on the forum a poster said they were discontinuing the LED headlight.

Is this true?

Thanks for your constant wealth of information on Kirby.

Kirby is not going back to standard light bulb`s . Especially since all standard light buld`s are being phased out in the US within the next few years. Only Flourescent and LED`S will be around . Kirby would never go backwards as they are always striving towards the future .The LED`s on the Kirby are the brightest yet . You can really see them shine on the carpet even in bright day light. That`s why they have begun using LED`s on all Newer automobile`s LED`s are the future . The new emptor now has a grab handle to ease with the removal of the emptor.

Bill,
As always your posts contain a ton of information that we could probably only speculate about without you!

Not a get off the topic but did the different wattage in the Diamond Edition headlight make for a less bight light? There is quite a difference in the brightness between my Ultimate G and Diamond Edition. The DE has the original bulb in it since new, but Im not sure about the UG. The UG certainly does illuminate the area in front of it much better. Just something I have noticed and wondered about but didnt think it was much more then needing to replace the bulb itself.

Chris, Steven, Lane & ?'s...

Hello all.

Chris,
You are correct, it was said in another thread that they were reverting to the old lightbulbs; however, that info. was/is incorrect. At least in this 'present' world of Kirby. ~~lol~~

Steven,
Let me be the first (or 2nd, or... ~~lol~~) to inform you, YOU ARE NOT CRAZY! There is a difference. The original bulbs are 11 watts & the DE bulbs are 8 watts.

Unless a customer requests or mentions a lighting issue, I put the 8 watt bulbs in when I do tune-ups (T/U) & repairs.

Lane,
I have attempted ordering the new Em-TorŪ several times, each time I have been informed that they are presently only available on production machines going into the field for direct sale. So as of yet, I have not had one in my possession.

They do L@@K a little weird in the pictures I have seen. Those who I know at the factory also have commented that they do L@@K a little strange.

You are all more than welcome, & thank you for the kind compliments. I hope to be a good source of accurate info. for all of you who are interested, at least regarding Kirbys. ~~lol~~

Cheers & hagwknd all,

Bill

I have found that the LED headlights whilst brighter are more prone to failing.

Two modules have been replaced on my Sentria, one since I got it. THe people I bought it from sold it to me without a working headlight so I had it replaced but I noticed on the documentation that they also had it replaced under warranty.

I have had it a year now and it hasnt failed yet. Maybe it was just bad luck?

late run Sentria G10d

I would end up getting a new model of the time this post would be new but just came across it recently. It has the new compact 1 piece mini emptor said to give a more direct flow to the bag which went back to the straight zipper design since moving to new "F" style so no need for the room to twist. Makes getting the big HEPA cloth bags into the cloth bag much easier.

I found it to essentially be a early run Sentria II but in the old colors. I like them both.

Is the second column the month when the change was made?

2010 09 - New Style Mini Em-Tor

Does this mean September 2010 for example?
