Model S3153 -

Picked this up a while ago, but just got it all cleaned up finally. One of my FAVORITE machines. I'd prefer to have the green model, but....... for now, this will have to entertain me.

That's very, very nice. I have a lower tier Celebrity that's green. I really like it. The Quadraflex brush roll does a great job. The only drawback is that the bags don't seem to filter very well. I really like the brown tones with the chrome on yours. Again, very nice!

Nice looking machine; it's more my line of country than the finds I've been making lately. I had one of these with the distinctive chrome upper section and dark blue bottom. It was a nice looking vac, but not in good nick. Worst part was the motor was shot. I bought this in a group buy of three vacs, and this was the only time I didn't plug one in and test it. I tested the other two and they were good; the one I didn't test was a dog.

Anyway, when I got it home and then test ran it, oops. It sounded like there were marbles in the works. I opened up the top and saw right away that the plastic motor housing was melted. The balls in the bottom bearing had been reduced to cintered iron and were completely missing; the motor was running with the inner and outer bearing races making contact with no bearings.

I've come to the conclusion that someone left this vac on for a very long time. Maybe it had belonged to a deaf person or someone just left it on as a mean prank.

Beyond the motor, the cord retractor was bad and there were plenty of other signs of wear and tear. I wound up junking this one, which I don't do too often. I have six other Celebrities (my fave vac) so I'm not too sad.

That's a real cutie, Steve. They were very classy looking, but I have never used one.

Thanks, Guys!

Gary....you're cracking me up! LoL....

John, seriously, you HAVE to try one. It might not be everyone's cup of tea, but I've always been crazy about them. Their perfomance is incredible.

On this particular one, the hose is really in bad condition, but try and find a replacement one that's NOT black or grey, or just in as bad of shape! Even with the holes in the hose, I STILL have to open the suction release valve to keep if from sticking to the carpet.

They are a powerhouse. HEAVY machine, but powerful and fun to use!

Very nice! I do love Celebrities. Such cool-looking and very effective machines. Definitely right up there with the Dimension 1000. I think the model you have was the model right before the QS edition(s) came out with the 'Quadraflex Powermatic' powerhead. Sort-of middle of the series, if you will.

Where are the holes in the hose? Could you post a picture of the ends of the hoses? You might be able to shorten that hose with a bit of skill/luck. I think those early hoses were serviceable, if they have a little metal pin in the collar. I've never serviced one, myself.. but it might be worth looking into.

I have the Celebrity IV "Deluxe

I love it it's a great machine.although I love brown vacuums so I like yours more!!Mine was a from my grandma who paid 10 bucks for it,the cord reel likes to be tricky, but other that that it's nice:)P.S-How good dose the "Check Bag Indicator" work on the Hoover's,I always wanted to know, Also I have the plain version with the tools and hose but no power nozzle, they leaned to share it!!

The tools.......

Garrett, I was informed were white on my model. I was surprised as Everything else was in creme. I'm half tempted to paint them as they look out of place to me. =0?

Fred.....

That might be an option I never even thought of! But, you are right on the money there. The biggest problems are right at both ends of the hose. At the handle where it curves. I'm sure just from over time. And at the intlet to the canister itself.

I'll have to look into that.

I agree about the effectiveness. We had a Dim 1000 growing up. I thought this S3153 was the model right before the minty green QS hit the market as well. However.....THAT'S my dream Celebrity. They're gonna need the paddles if I ever walk into a thrift store and it's there!

Thanks again for the tip!

Hoover Celebrity

I have one of those and they are very powerful machines. Mine is the QS series mine is flawless except for the Power Nozzle which doesn't run. It is the new style power nozzle like on a Demension 1000 the power nozzle has two speeds and the reason it doesn't run is because the circuit board in it is out. I either need to find a new circuit board for it or another power nozzle. Does anybody have any suggestions as to where I can get a circuit board or another power nozzle??? Dan

Dan, did you change the light bulb in your powerhead? Those electronic Celeb powerheads stopped working when the bulb burned out oddly enough.

Alex

That's RIGHT! I had just learned that a few weeks back. So much for retaining info.

Keep us posted, Dan! =0) Fingers crossed. They are GREAT machines.

I've got one of those mint green QS's

I just repossessed it from one of my daughters. I think I mentioned this in another post; I bought it for them to use when they were vacuum-less, so it was kinda on loan. I conned them into trading it back for a Hoover Elite upright. So, I took it back recently. It was like new when I turned it over to them, but it needed cleaning up when I got it back. Still, it's pretty nice. I should post a coupla pics of it.

How did they decide to let me have the Celebrity back and take the Elite? H bags are harder to find that A bags.

It has the mint green hose which I thought was pretty good but when I was cleaning it lately I noticed it had the typical cracking in the outer membrane near where it connects to the tank, and in one small place the hole went all the way through. Ulp. I don't really wanna throw it away; I was thinking about putting a little dollop of silicone sealer down in there. It shouldn't move around much being down in a crack. We'll see.

I'm not a big fan of Hoover cord retractors, at least not the ones I'm familiar with. They either won't hold their position and want to retract all the time, or they fail to retract at all. I've seen beater Celebrities with bad retractors where the owners had tied a knot in the cord to keep it from going back in.
