I was using my steam vac today for the first time in a while and noticed the gasket on the recovery tank lid has a broken spot. I wonder if this is compromising suction? I can't imagine how it happened. I was wondering if they sell a replacement.... or if I could just "patch" it with some of that "car gasket maker" in a tube? What do you guys think?

A quick and dirty repair of seals is usually done with silicone sealant, the permanently flexible stuff you use on the edges of baths, just fill the gap and level it out, leave it to set and you're sorted... :)

I need to get myself one of them, either the original UK Hoover "Brush 'n' Wash" or the TTI rebrand version, the Vax Oasis V133...

I'd try the silicone, should do the trick.

Not sure too many (if any) sell the gasket separately from the recovery tank lid.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. You may be able to stretch the gasket that's already in there, but there was never a replacement part available to just replace that gasket. I think a new lid is part # 42272111, but that's off the top of my head -- and it's been a few years since I'm sure that was an active part #. A new lid might be the same.

If you think it is compromising the suction, then yes -- use a dab of silicone.

:-)

I just checked my machine, and it too has a seperation like yours shown in the photo.

I do not think it is anything to worry about...
