I was channel surfing yesterday when i came across, "the ultimte lightweight vacuum" I thought it might have been about Orecks, so i decided to watch it. It wsnt about orecks It was some type of vacuum called "Garry", and they look like exact ripoffs of Orecks. Opinions?

Garry vacuums

I ordered one last year. It was ok but I sent mine back the next day because the brush was too soft and it WAY too loud. It was like using some of the new Hoovers. A normal person could not tolerate the high pitch of the motor. Very ,very different from the noise level of my Oreck XL Platinum, which is very quiet for an upright.
As a mater of fact, it was loud like my first Oreck. The bag looked like a copy of the Oreck bags.
It did have some attached tools. They were difficult to use but I am not a fan of attached tools on uprights.

There has been a lot of discussion about those on here. Personally, I would not want one, and I have heard of a lot of complaints on the noise level. They also look a lot like a Riccar Supralite.

I found this testimonial on the Garry website:

04-26-2010 - "I have used Kirby, Lectro Lux, And Hoover vacuums and i have to say this is best vacuum i have ever purchased it is light and definitely has great suction."

Well, I certainly don't want to get one of dem lectro luxes.

Not a very good vac.

The internet is littered with complaints about the Garry Vac. I have read several complaints that the motors burn out in the first few weeks and it costs more than $100 to have a new one sent out. Lots of complaints about customer service, or rather lack there of. I suggest that anyone thinking about getting one study up on it first.
Just my two pence.

I saw the Garry informercial last night for the first time. Dripping with skepticism about the "free lifetime warranty," I was not surprised to read elsewhere in this forum that "free" does not include shipping to return the malfunctioning machine and for the shipping on a new one, and that the shipping charge is highly inflated.

Same for the "free bags forever" claim -- they get you on the shipping.

Not to mention that it's a butt-ugly looking thing.

This same sort of scam is showing up on all sorts of products advertised on TV and radio now, mostly snake-oil concoctions to correct everything from liver spots to impotence -- "get a free trial of this product ... just pay a small shipping and handling charge" (a ridiculously high amount of course). And, of course, the pills are merely vitamins or sugar pills with phony "super ingredients."

I don't understand why all these scammers get away with defrauding the public so blatantly as this. Why isn't the FTC going after these crooks? Payola? Lobbyists? It doesn't make sense.

Another thing about Garry

They say in the infomercial, that it comes with a free steam mop. Just pay separate shipping and handling. If you have to pay separate shipping, then why is it shipped in the same box as the vacuum?

Yeah, that too. This company will disappear before long. Internet buzz about its shady policies will be its undoing.

Yes, we had the same case. My uncle bought my mom a set of kitchen knives from an infomercial for $19.99- it sounded like a good deal! But the wood block that came with it was $300.00!
