Sure, I'm almost positive you can replace those bearings.

Explain what? How to get at the motor and replace them?

Getting at the motor is easy enough but you'll need a bearing puller to remove the bearings. If you bring the disassembled motor to the shop where you're buying the bearings, they should be able to pull them off and put the new ones on.

You can get the bearings on by yourself with no special tools.

well i ment the motor is held together with rivets

Oh, okay. If you can take a picture, it would be helpful. Like I said, I've never done one of those personally.

But usually for motors that have rivets, you drill them out, replace the bearings, then put screws in place of the rivets if you don't have a rivet gun.

Oh bugger. I was beginning to have a nasty feeling it was one of those. How bad are the bearings currently?

You can replace those bearings, but it is a royal pain in the butt. Do you have access to a drill press? You need to be able to set the depth of the drill bit so that it doesn't punch through the fans as well when drilling out the rivets.

When you are putting it back together, you will want to use low-profile screws instead of rivets. You may also need to dent the housing to countersink the screw heads. Luckily, I've been able to find screws with small enough heads that I didn't have to do that.

Hmmm...By designing the motor that way, did Panasonic really intend for the motor to be serviced or just tossed out?

All I've seen have been sealed. I've only had one screamer so did a swtich with another junker I'd found.

I'd say you have to weigh the hassle of getting at the bearings versus the ease of finding another motor. I'm sure a member here has one of those lying around (I don't).

If you haven't done many motors, I wouldn't reccommend digging into this one.

I bet my 6255, dear old friend has the same inside. Never a problem, ever, but high miles on the girl.

well ok i decided on finding a new motor for it because it is not worth the hassle it is going to take to replace the bearings so if any one has for sale or trade let me know
