Unsure if I'm going to be welcome here or not, but I've always been a real lover of the vintage Interstate Compact, Tri Star series vacuums. My collection is very very small, but certainly not my passion for them. Hopefully, I can fit in here! I have always wanted a very vintage Kirby upright or two, but need to wait until they cost as much as my house, before I buy in! (wink wink)

Okay, figured it out. Guess Kirby will work out, since there are no Tri star backgrounds. That's messed up! (grin)

I would like to also welcome you _____, to the forum/club.

I was doing some vacuum searches & tripped over the forum/club so-to-speak. There's a lot of nice people in the club & a lot of helpful info.

I'm somewhat limited on assistance w/ other brands (don't want to repair or rebuild others); however, with KIRBYs, if there's any way I may be of help that you're not familiar with, feel free to contact me [thru my email in my profile might be the quickest]. I carry Genuine Kirby parts w/deeply discounted prices for members. And again, welcome.

Bill

Well thank you guys! I know very little about the Kirbys but certainly always wanted one for the last 25 years, and so the search has begun with a couple ads on my local craigslist. Is there any real big difference in all the upright models that appear to be from the 1950s? They are sure beautiful looking vacuums. I'm hoping they don't cost a darn retirement to get one. Should check ebay, but am scared to! I love the Kirky in Eurekastars avatar.

Be careful what you wish for.....

kirbylux77's profile picture
When you get one Kirby, they have a tendency to sneak up on ya awfully quick, and then next thing you know you'll have TONS of them!

There is a few differences here & there between the older models, but not much. The 50's & 60's models, such as my Kirby 519, are lighter to push than say a Heritage or Classic III. I would start with a 500 series model if I was you....just a thought.

I respect you, MM

To get a cool backround: Click on "update profle, in the upper right-hand corner. Then scroll down until you find something that says, "wallpaper backround". Does this help?

Hello there

I notice you are a musician in a bottle! ...well, perhaps not in a bottle but hopefully a musician :) well, aside from vacuums, music is my favourite thing in the world and I play quite a few instruments myself as well as being in a band.
Kirbys are fine vacs though, infact, one of the only companies to still make their vacuums in the U.S.

Dear kirby16

"Rob"

I recommend reading the guidelines for the group. You need to provide your real name.

I don't know what it is as of late but it seems the gentle harmony of the group is disrupted.

By activating your user ID or posting, you agree with the Webmaster and the Vacuum Cleaner Collectors Club to abide by the following guidelines for participation in the Vacuumland Forums.

1. Access to the site is unlimited but access to posting on the forums requires an email request to the Webmaster to gain posting privileges. You will be required to supply a valid email address as well as your real name for your profile even though you can post under a ‘nickname.” No anonymous users or pseudonyms will be allowed. If the Webmaster discovers that there are multiple posters using one user account, that account will be deactivated. Any violation of these rules will subject the poster to revocation of posting privileges. Understand that these rules will be enforced by the Webmaster as authorized by the Vacuum Cleaner Collectors Club Board of Directors.

Was also banned. He signed up one day and started major trouble the next. If you go back in history, most of the Vacuum forums have gone down in flames due to troublemakers. My goal is to keep the venue working. I can smell trouble a-brewing a mile away.

to the Tri Star lover

I wish I had joined this group two months ago. I had a Tri Star DXL, I needed room so I gave it to the local thrift store... another vac I wish I had kept. To Musicinabottle, there are some good Kirby fixer-uppers on eBay. The prices are not too bad, but offer a little less than they are asking and maybe you can get a price that both you and the seller find acceptable. I had a very early Compact some years ago, pretty beat up and it's bag stank(yuck!!). It, along with most of my collection had to be given up when I moved into much smaller digs. But, I kept the core of the collection and I am now building it up again... and running out of space. email me if you have Kirby questions, I was fairly good at Kirby repair.
