After months of wanting one, I finally broke down and bought one! Here's after just paying for it at Sears!

Yay! I've heard very good things about that model Fred! What did you think of its performance?

Glad you ask, Terry...

I decided that before I was going to put up the Christmas tree that I wanted to give the living room a good cleaning.

So I dusted everything, vacuumed everything, moved all of the furniture to one half of the room, folded up the carpet, vacuumed the floor
real well, then steamed the floor (then did the other half of the room).

I absolutely LOVE the steamer!

It works very well, and is super easy to use! It cleans very well, and it's impressive how dirty the pads get. My only dislike is how quickly the pads get
saturated with water, and need to be swapped with a clean pad. I started with 4 pads, I will probably buy 4 more. The pads are easy to throw in the
wash and clean, though.

Very glad I purchased it, and I highly recommend it!

That cord

looks like it could make it out to the driveway. Awesome....

I was wondering if those could be used on hardwood? We had a 3/4 oak floor, but with a factory finish that was a bear to clean. It streaked with the mop really bad. However, the Hoover Floormate worked pretty good as it vacuumed up the water immediately.

BUT........with wood in the kitchen, I always thought the steam might do a great job at sanitization.

You'll have to report on the time you have, or how much floor you can do before adding more water.

Actually, Terry...

You should really go out and get one. I just know you'll love it to bits and pieces! Be sure to get some extra pads with it.

I love that it has a removable water container for easy filling. I am using distilled water in it. They say you can use tap water, but I just prefer distilled.

They are on QVC for a pretty good price........

The water really lasts for a good long time. I didn't even go through half a tank of water in the entire living room. It takes me 3-4 spins through the kitchen to empty a tank of water.

I wouldn't let it just sit on the floor for a period of time... as long as it keeps moving, the steam dries pretty instantly.

Great thread, Fred!

This was really interesting to read! I love the simplicity and efficiency of steam-cleaning, and the idea of sanitisation without the use of costly (and potentially harmful?) chemicals!

I have a Morphy-Richards steam cleaner designed a little like a canister vac - a main unit to generate the steam, a hose, wands and a floor-head. It works fine (although the plastic wands start to flex when they get hot, which is irritating), but I know exactly what you mean about how quickly the pads get saturated and require replacement. Sounds like a challenge for a company that solves problems - a zero-consumable steam cleaner! I wonder if it would be possible to design the head of the steamer like one of those self-wringing mops, so you could wring out excess water into a bucket or something...

I'll have to look into getting one of these stick-style steamers, they sound much more practical than the canister-type models.

It for sure will be on my shopping list in the near future Fred! I was pretty sure you would love it!

Thanks, Fred.......

I'm thinking it would be great for ceramic in the bathrooms too. And probably the right size to clean behind the toilet as well.

I'm glad to know it lasts fairly long without having to stop and refill. We had a Steambuggy a few years back that worked well, but it seemed like it was always needing to be refilled.

I'm in. Sign me up, Mr. Claus!

Me too

I got mine on Wednesday as an early Holiday season present to myself. As you can see, I also have a Shark, which I don't hate, but something about it never floated my boat. It is very quirky to use and the fact that each push of the handle pumps the steam out, it isn't smooth to use and you end up getting blasted with steam. The pads also aren't smooth so they don't glide easily over textured ceramic tile.

I've been seeing these Haans and they looked a quality product. What an improvement this is over the Shark!! So smooth to use. It does not pump so it glides nicely and the pads are really smooth and very nice to use. I have ceramic tile and this was really a treat to use on them. The bathroom floors literally gleamed when I was finished. From assembly, to filling the tank, to the comfortable ergonomic handle and very nice pads, this is not a toy and the best of such products that I have ever used.

I second the recommendation !!

Chris, I have the same Shark steamer. Had it for two years and for the most part I have liked it so I am sure that I will love the Hann. I think that the removable water tank will be a great feature.

Nice sleek looking unit, Fred. Glad to hear the pads are washable. Gawd, your floors are so flat!

My kitchen Congoleum over the warped pine floor is so rippled only hands & knees scrubbing or the Hoover Floor Washer Dryer vacuum will do the job effectively.

Fred...

I am going to ask the million dollar question:
Why did you deciede to purchase a Haan Steamer versus another brand (Bissell, etc...)?
I am looking into getting one and have been caught by the Bissell.
Tell me what you think!

Clayton

I was just thinking the same thing! The Bissell steamers look very nice. At least, I think you aren't being sarcastic? Because then I would just feel stupid. But I would like to get either a Bissell or a Shark to replace my old Floormate..It is just a pain to use..

Haan Steamer

I have the Haan Slimline also. I had the one that you have to pour water into, which was a pain. I too looked at the Bissell Steamer. I chose the Haan Slimline over the Bissell because of the squared off edges on the Haan cleaning pads. It will clean right up to the baseboards, I don't think the Bissell would be a good edge cleaner....Just my opinion. I think the two best out there without buying a $1000 plus steamer's would be the Haan or Bissell.

I really like the Bissell Sweep & Steam but I don't know if that would work out so well. I am not sure if I would want the mint green one that only steams, or the one with the sweeper.. Decisions Decisions..

Looks like a quality product

A single function steamer would probably do the best job, like the Han discussed above. If my home had a lot of hard surfaces to clean, I would buy a steam mop in a heartbeat. But for now I don’t mind getting on my hands and knees with a rag. Like my mother and grandmother did for years.

However, the Han does like nice. My guess would be that it is the elite in the steamer category. Some of the others just look cheesy.

Enjoy

I used to have a Shark canister type but it was very cumbersome to use although it did have attachments like spray nozzles etc for doing more than floors. I gave it to a friend when we moved. Found a little handheld steamer, forget the name now at the Goodwill last year. I recollect the pads on the shark getting wet very fast as well.

Hey I see you must have just got that Lady Kenmore (oster) blender.. from the looks of the Value Village sticker still affixed to it LOL

I myself was thinking of the mint green Bissell or even the gray color that Target has available. I don't know why but I am not attracted to the Sweep and Steam one. I also think that for the price difference between the regular steamer and the Sweep and Steam, I would purchase the regular steamer.

I had the Haan recommended to me by Terry a few months back... I just had it in my head that the Haan was the one I wanted. I have never really been impressed by any Bissell products. I've repaired too many of them. (I'm not saying that it's not a good product, though... it very well could be.) Maybe that's why I didn't even really consider a Bissell. The Shark steamers also just seem to be not all that wonderful in the Quality department. Terry has a Shark, though -- so he'd be able to shed light on his experience. I also really like the lines, simplicity and compact-ness of the Haan. I also don't like the vacuum/steam mop combo. Just seems like too much.

Fred is right, I do have the Shark and have had it for two years. I must say that I really do like the idea of cleaning with steam and have for the most part been very pleased with it. Like all other things improvements have been made since I got mine. A removable water tank, longer cord, and better overall construction to name a few. I for sure have gotten my money's worth out of the Shark but my next one will be the Hann that Fred has.

I bought the newer Shark a while back, and I love it. It has a swivel, reversible head. I got mine at Costco. They give you one each of a large duster, a large steam pad, a regular-sized pad, and a triangular pad. They don't get too saturated, and the machine does a great job. It would be nice to have a removable tank.
