....called the "Nimble"! Seems to be designed to compete with Dyson's "Ballvac" and the new Miele uprights.....

Has anyone test-driven this vac at Lowes?

It looks more like a Miele to me ..but a bagless version

Looks pretty interesting, I'd certainly like a closer look at one! It's described as 'Dual Cyclonic' - it would be cool to see exactly how their cyclone system has been designed. Looks like their steering system is closely based around the Miele S7's set-up...

The Miele S7, for comparison...

You're absolutely right, Pete.....

looks more like a Miele copy.....but it has the Quickdraw handle+hose of the those bulky LG's and Hoover Windtunnel II's and that Panasonic upright featuring a handle that releases to become the hose handle.

I really can't stand these multipurpose dusting brushes they give you now! Dusting brush + crevice tool + upholstery nozzle all in one...yuch.......

Judging from the number of bagless machines that are traded in in for bagged machines including Dysons, I think it would be smart if they came out with a bagged version.

I agree with Riccarstar. Sure Dyson has seemingly set the bar for plasti-vac bagless crap. Really though, people are starting to realize the error of their ways with Bagless vacuum cleaners.

As I always admit, Dyson is a great vacuum. The repairs we do on Dysons every month pay the payment on my new convertible.

New Electrolux Upright Cleaner

Chris,
What type of repairs are you seeing on the Dysons?
Being a collector, I try and take care of my machines, I have not had problems with any of my Dysons except the stiff brushroll.
The front of the new Lux looks a little like the old 1950's Singer upright.
I wonder if the handle has a heavy feel in use. When I tried the Miele upright, it had a heavy feeling much like my Anniversary Hoover Convertible upright. It seems like it would be tiring to use.

Getting rid of the bag made James a billionaire... I'm sure he doesn't begrudge you a convertible! ;)

It says it is no longer available on the website? That's a shame. I would have honestly considered getting one!

We see a ton of stretched belts and bad clutches. Filters are frequently mishandled when washed. Hoses frequently crack or tear. The ball machine is easily worn out- especially by people who don't care about their machines. We must remember that not everyone collects. Dyson is marketed now in big box stores- this leads to the reputation of being a more expensive "throw away brand." Even though it is more expensive, it still is not expected to last for any significant period of time. Like I have said before, people either absolutely love their Dyson or they hate it. Most of the people hate them and find them cumbersome and non-friendly to the user. We do have those customers of ours who love the Dyson and we would never talk them out of the machine.

As for the customers, I guess they think highly of the repairs. The average Dyson repair is in the $75-100 range. Every customer that has come in has either A) Gotten the machine fixed, B) Traded the machine up, or C) Abandoned the repair. I tend to prefer C since we have a 30 day policy on repair abandonment. No customers have walked out without taking one of those options. Dysons make great used vacuums.

We also need to keep in mind the number of Dysons that do NOT have to be repaired. I'm seeing 10-15 per week (in a large city), but there are probably a lot more out there that aren't being repaired or are not having problems. Regardless, it is a vacuum cleaner- and a decent vacuum cleaner. I just don't prefer bagless personally, and I think the exterior of the Dyson is bulky and cumbersome looking.

James Dyson has made a lot of money marketing this object, just as David Oreck did. I have both of them to thank actually, both Dyson and Oreck make up a great deal of our repair work.

New Electrolux Upright Vacuum

Chris,
Thanks for sharing your finding on the Dyson. I sometimes forget as a collector we do try and take care of our machines. I was one who if had to base their impression only on my first Dyson DC07 it would have not been good at all. It thought it was so heavy and cumbersome to use BUT I love my Dyson DC23 and I want to get a Dyson DC25 Ball sometime.
I have to admit I have a Oreck Platinum XL and I do like the machine. Same as with Dyson, I had an earlier Oreck upright and it hated it. I learned to not judge an entire brand by one model. I have learned a lot from Jack's post about the Dyson.
It seems like a lot of people today do see a sweeper as a throw-a-way item except if you say it's a Kirby or Rainbow.

Heavy handled Mieles.. I remember thinking that as well when I first and only ever tried one back at Chads shop a couple of years ago.... Pivoting or not.. it was a tad to weighty.
