Hey everybody, it's been a while since I've posted last, but I'm getting ready to buy a new vac (too bad, right!) and I'm looking at the Sanitaire SC782/SC785. This will be for an 800 sq foot townhose with a mix of carpeting and bare floors and stairs.

Would this be a good choice? Any other recommendations in this price range? Finally, any Sanitaire dealers on here? I'd love to give my business to someone on the board if the price is right.

Travis

Excellent choice. I stock the 782 (household) and can easily get the 785 (commercial). The only difference between the two is the color of the machine and the cord. The 782 is my biggest selling upright in my store. I'll be glad to help you.

Hey Clay!

While we are on the topic of Sanitaire, I was curious if the 785 is more expensive than the 782. I would've never guessed that the only thing different between the two would be the cord and color! Kind of like, if not JUST like, the Kirby Classic and Kirby Classic Omega. You could even throw in the Classic III, right? Are they all the same minus color? I LOVE the Sanitaire, although I never had a clue how good they were until I tried one myself at my church. I think it has a clog in it, but it still did pretty well on those light crumbs. Maybe I will talk my pastor into letting me take it home and look at it! We also have a Royal. Our old Sanitaire had a pure red bag, all cloth, I guess with a paper bag. Our new one has the dirt cup in the bottom. The Royal had an orange bag. Could anyone tell me what models all of these were? Anyway...Thanks ahead of time! :-D

Clay,

How would you compare the 782/785 Sanitaires with the C5712a Eureka Commercial? I saw that for a while there was a Sanitaire version of the C5712a, but it seems to have been dropped. But I'd have to say that after trying a number of diffrent vacs, including various bagless, the C5712a is the best one so far. Quiet, easy to manuver, great dust bag capacity and filtering, and cleans very well.

They are two different things, aimed at two different markets. The 782/785 is a lightweight full powered upright. Interestingly, Eureka considers it to be their competition for Oreck. It's certainly a much better machine. I'd been steering Oreck buyers (very successfully) to the 634, the lightweight machine on the F&G bag machine platform.
