I went to sears and tested the Mini Dyson canister...great at bare floors and flat carpet...but $499+ tax??? then I tested the Hoover windtunnel air.. Wow for $199+ tax a very good value and very quiet and powerful. I did notice the hoover blew dirt around on the floor though vacuuming bare floor with the roller brush turned off. Hmmm. I really like the Hoover, I just might buy that one.

windtunnel air does seem like a good vac, as close to a dyson clone as one can get

Hey Brad

I've been happy with the Windtunnel Air that I bought also. I have not noticed any blowing debris on bare floors. Overall, it appears to be a pretty good machine, though I do have to occasionally clean out the dirt container. Good luck. John L.

Can you say more about the Dyson? I've been following Jack's videos about the new mini DC26, and I think I might want one. It's out in Canada but not in the US.

I only have the one Dyson, and I truly love it, no trouble ever, well thought out.

I have a large collection of Dysons, all of which I really like, but I can't check out the DC26 on my own cuz it's not available in the US. If I ask Jack about it one more time he's gonna get a restraining order.

I got my DC26 last week.

I absolutely love it.

Perhaps I can be of some assistance here? (Yes, I'm back, new username, etc etc)

In the clip above, Blair, a Dyson design-engineer who worked on DC26, gives a short presentation of the new model's features. I filmed this at Dyson's UK headquarters in January.

@ Beerad - DC26 took five years of research, development and testing to bring to market. This is partly what you're paying for in the high pricetag; Dyson are currently spending over £1mil (US $1.6mil) per week on R&D. They've also recently begun the process of doubling their UK team of design-engineers, scientists and technicians from 350 to 700.

@ Patrick - Back in March, when I first asked Dyson about the possibility of DC26 being launched in America, I was told it was definitely being considered, but no firm decision had yet been made. However, when I visited their Chicago-based US headquarters in July, it was confirmed to me that DC26 will be launched on the US market - I'd imagine within the next couple of months. And don't worry, no restraining order has been filed ;)

Hoover Windtunnel Air

The Hoover Windtunnel Air started life as the Vax Mach Air, developed in England by the Vax design team. However, Hoover's designers created a new Windtunnel head for it before it was launched in the US. Vax's Product Manager tells me there are no current plans to launch the Windtunnel version in the UK, sadly.

Aside from the Windtunnel head, there are a few other slight differences between the Hoover and the Vax; notably, the shroud in the Hoover's cyclone system is very slightly different.

I like the look

Of the Hoover Air slightly better. It seems a little more substantial. I have been surprised at the strong cleaning performance. One of the things I do NOT like is the amount of heat this vacuum produces while using it. It can quickly raise the temperature in a small room several degrees, especially if you are spending much time vacuuming in that room. The attachments, in my opinion, could be better, too. But, overall, I think this is a good product. Thanks for those videos, Jack. I remember that you published one of them previously. It was helpful to see them. JL
