On eBay, there is a 1974 Royal 880. The seller lists the model as being a 1969 model, but the serial # on it reads 37J-A-77361.

The "37J" code breaks down as:
3 = calendar year 1973
7 = calendar year decade (1970s)
J = calendar month October (or September if "I" is skipped)

I am wondering if, because of the serial #, this vacuum belonged to Jeff Schroff (hygiene903) at one time. If so, this could be his opportunity to reclaim it.

Not Mine!

I still have the only 880 I have ever owned, which was a gift from my good friend Jim Barnhart. However, it is almmost identical to this one and the serial #'s are close--mine is 37JA-77827, indicating they could have possibly been built the same day or week, only 466 between them! Here's mine.

Looks like a newer bag and AOR plate, both appear to have been replaced sometime after 1978 but before about 1985.

AOR = Adjust-O-Rite

Well, the adjust-o-rite may have been replaced, but I have no doubt that the bag is original, first because it is the same as the bag on the one in your ebay link, and also because I started selling Electro-Hygienes about 3 months after this one was built, and that's the bag I remember seeing on the 880 Royals at that time.
