Is this Royal Everlast upright. My grandmother had an old Royal for the longest time, and I want one because of that. I found this on Shop Goodwill last week and no one bid on it. It was relisted, and I've bid on it now. It looks pretty nice from the pictures, so I'll give it a shot. Wish me luck ...

Joe

Good luck, hope you win! Also this is a question I have often wondered, are kirbies better, or are royals better?

In my opinion

Royal is a very good vacuum, but I believe Kirby is better. But then again I may be a little biased! :-)

OK Joe, I'll wish you good luck BUT.......

You are never - ever done collecting. Oh - trust me, I know what you're saying, I'll get this one - and that's it! NO MORE! Absolutely NO MORE VACUUMS! Then, you come to a convention, or you happen to glance at EBay.....and it happens. You say to yourself......I gotta get me one of those.

OK, one more. But no more after that. Except maybe that one...

Just ask me, I know how it is

Oh! These chains that bind us to our vacuum addiction. Oh, the shame of it......

(standing behind a microphone in front of a group of people)
eh, Hi - my name is Rick...and I collect vacuum cleaners. (group): "Hi Rick".

(hanging head low, a tear running gently from one eye)

That's not one of the Everlast series. That's one of the 90's Royals with a new bag put on. Get it anyway, the 90's motors are better than the current ones. The old awesome logo is a dead giveaway that this it pre-TTI, as are the little "hubcaps".

I personally like Royals a little better than Kirbys, but it's just a matter of personal preference. I like the sound of the motors better, and the fan housing and brushroll design is way better IMO. You don't have to spilt the fan housing to work on them, and the early Royals even had one-piece housings. I like Kirbys but I really hate how the brushrolls stick in the bottom plate.

I also like Royals tougher METAL fans over Kirbys plastic ones. The Royal fans hold up better.I so remember the Royal demo given by a Royal sales rep at a former Royal dealer out here-He let a Royal upright suck several pennies from his hand and they went into the Royal vacuum that had the grey dump bag.He showed Bill and I the coins-some were bent over completely-and then he removed the fancase and we looked at the fan-one blade was very slightly bent-another had a small nick in it.Both Bill and I said that would have DESTROYED a Kirby plastic fan.Now for the TTI Royals-don't know how they will hold up.
