This afternoon, I went to the other vacuum shop in town and asked the man I could see what he had. He took me to a couple of rooms overflowing with vintage Kirbys!!! I walked away with a D50 AND a D80! So then I said, "Do you mind if I look at the parts you have in stock?" "Sure!" he said. So he took me into his parts room and he had box after box of old and NOS belt lifters, bag guards, bag tops, floor polishers, etc. So I walked away with two vacuum cleaners, various obsolete parts (many brand new), and a brand new floor polisher for a Model 516ff. I've posted a picture of the floor polisher. My brother's camera battery ran out, so I'll post some more pictures as soon as I get a new battery for my brother's camera.

More Vintage Parts!

Another photo took before the camera died. The D50 didn't have a bag top on it but he had a new one in a box with all his other bag tops. The bag guard was missing on the D80, but he had many of those too. He said the owner's father-in-law was a Kirby Distributor for about 30 years and when he retired his son-in-law inherited the parts supply and opened a vacuum store. The guy told me they've been thinning out old stock and just throwing stuff away because "no one wants that stuff anymore". He told me they just threw away a bunch of NOS shampooers! So I told him to hang onto that stuff and I would be back in November for Thanksgiving! I have to leave first thing Monday morning to head back home, but I plan to call the owner myself. The guy I visited with was an employee. My Mom gave me her Classic Omega too but the bag is in bad shape. The guy had a Classic Omega with a really good bag, so I think I may go back by there and see if he'll see me just the bag.

Blue Non-Original Parts

Some of the stuff he had were blue non-original parts, including blue 560/561 belt lifters and trim. I didn't take any of that, because I will never use it. It looked odd. He also had some dark brown 500 series headlight trim. I didn't take any of that because I knew I'd never use it. However, he did have some red 500 series trim and bag tops. I may use that stuff some day, especially the bag tops. I noticed in another thread where someone had what appeared to be a Classic Omega trimmed out in blue. I would guess that it was after market stuff.

Great photo

You captured so much in just one photo of all those belt lifters.

I visited someone recently that had a d80 and still had the paper attached belt lifter instructions. I thought, You used this all these years with that on there?

Anyhow, I digress, Nice photo.

He had several belt lifters with those protective stickers still in the sealed plastic bag. I opened one and peeled the sticker back, thinking it was a brand new D80 belt lifter. I didn't recognize it but I think it must have been a replacement that Kirby made for the 562 to D80. It may have been to a specific model, but I just didn't recognize it. It was nice looking but had a more generic look. I wish I had more time to spend, but I went in there at 3:45 PM and they close at 4 PM on Saturdays. He was glad to stay a little longer but I didn't want to overstay my welcome.

I think the kids are going to have to hitch-hike home tomorrow with haul I'm coming away with: 4 vintage Kirby vacuums, 1 Electrolux that my aunt gave me, and various vintage Kirby parts! I never thought my hometown would be a treasure trove of vintage vacuums!
