My dad is moving into his new house, and he had to bribe me with a new vacuum if I took the smaller room. Obviously, I took him up on that. I told him I wanted a Dyson, and he asked which one, and he will order it when I figure it out. The house has medium shag carpet, hardwood, and tile floors. I want to go with a new one, I am just not sure which. So I figured I'd ask for some help on here. I know, I complain about them non-stop, our's were just not good at this house, but this house is PERFECT for one. I am thinking, Dyson DC14 Animal, DC17 Absolute, DC27, or possibly a DC25 Animal. I am questioning the DC27 because I am not sure if it has an on/off brushroll or not, and I need that. I like the DC17 because, that is one of the ones I had, and the brushroll was amazing. I also had the DC14, and it was okay, but I feel it would do a good job. And then, I have always wanted a Dyson with a ball, but I am not sure that one would deep clean as well as the others. So let me know what you think. Thanks,
Chase

Stay away from the DC14. I hear they are being discontinued.... but the clutch system will give you nothing but problems.... I'm already on my 2nd one and I baby that thing. I do love it for a bagless vacuum though... I'd recommend the DC28 Air Muscle because it is the only one with true height adjustment. Otherwise, the mini-ball model is cute. Congrats though.... that's quite a bribe!

I considered the DC28, but there are TONS of reviews saying the height adjustment broke very quickly. I just do not want to take that risk

DC27

It is the improved version of the DC17. The DC17 has problems with its seals, and the DC27 does not, it was fixed. The DC27 does have on and off brush control. They do not make a Dyson without it in the US.

I know I might sound like a gold-digger saying this but...

I would go for the most expensive one! If your Dad is buying, why not take advantage of the oppertunity? I think that the DC17/DC27 might be too rough on shag. Mine works wonderful but the bristles are very tough, too tough for shag if you ask me. You would probably be happy with the DC25 Animal. Can't go wrong with that gorgeous purple!

Hi Chase,

I currently have a DC27, the "Total Clean" package which included a mini turbine tool, flexi crevice tool and soft dusting brush with the machine. I have had this one since last January and LOVE it! It uses the improved root cyclone setup which does very well with filteration. Also the pre-motor filter has a much better seal design and lets nothing past it. The HEPA is now removable and washable as well. It uses the clip/lock on style tools. The brush roll is aggressive enough to thurally clean but will not ruin carpets, its a big improvement over the DC17. I've had no problems with mine doing anything like that. It's been a very good machine. Good enough were I decided to blow another paycheck to get one of the canister models lol, perhaps another option for ya ;)

The DC27 is close to the same thing as the 28, the main difference is the brush roll housing and motor setup. The 27 has a much less complicated stationary brush roll with its own motor, the 28 has a clutch setup to run with the suction motor (correct me if I'm wrong on that). You can remove the brush roll easily and quickly. Thats not quite the case with the Air Muscle model.

Which ever model you go for, I'm sure you'll be happy with.

Yeah the motorhead canister is like, fricken 800 dollars Davis lol. Not happening. I am sure the DC27 will be hard to push, because when we had our DC17, it was sort of hard to push as well. But this carpet isn't as thick as my mom's house. So it SHOULD be all good. I guess I'll for the DC27, because there are some amazing deals for it on eBay. Thanks for the input everyone =]

I had no Idea. Once vacuums start to cost about how much I could buy a car for, The vac starts to look about 10x less apealing.
