Hi,

Is it true that the Adjust-O-Rite feature that appeared on many Royal all-metal uprights is little more than a gimmick?

Some people may worry that the device did not work all that well. So, how can you tell if it is working right?

No, it works, but I've never found it to be very useful. I think you push the button in and watch how far it comes back out, or something like that.

It takes a long time to mess with and any of us can set a vacuum to the right height by ear.

ok here is how it works

you adjust the turn screw on the back wheels or newer ones have a toe pedal. in the middle of the adjust a button sticks out. when the nozzle is at the *rite height* it is sucked inwards and that tells you it is at the proper cleaning position. it works, but you can also tell by the tone like a kirby.

some early royals and low ends just have a cover plate.

I have a Royal 2075 with an Adjust-O-Rite. It works exactly as Joe described. Simply push the toe pedal until the button is sucked in, indicating that a seal to the carpet has occurred. It works well for me.

New Royals either have the "adjust right" knob or the "auto Toe" matic height adjust. The Adjust Right is better. The BOL and some Commercial Royals have the plastic cover plate on the front.Would pefer if the front panel was metal and replaceable.
