I saw an ad on craigslist For a Kirby Classic Omega for $30 and of course I made sure to send them an email ASAP! I am going to look at it and pick it up on thursday. I was told it works fine, but they said they have had it for 2 years- and just discovered that it "doesnt take paper bags"... and they dont want to empty it because of their allergies... so we will see!

OMG ....... visions of arms-full of clumped up dirt, pet hair, dead dust mites, Lord only knows what else ....... better get a full-face dust mask and rubber gloves before tackling that mess!!!

I got it today and it is in lots better conditon than I expected! It was factory rebuilt in june of 1994 and it works great and sounds perfect! the bag is like new (after it was cleaned out and washed) the brushroll is ok, and that works great after I cut TONS of hair and strings off of it. almost the ENTIRE brushroll was COVERED with hair and string! the cord is perfect, and the aluminum body is not too bad. It has a plastic fan, which is in good condition, but is it supposed to have a plastic fan or a metal one? the only thing it needs is a new light bulb!

Dustin, Congrats on the Omega, its one of my favorite Kirby's. About the fan,,yes, when it was new it did have a metal fan, but during the Factory Rebuild, they replaced it with the lexan(Plastic) fan,,,they do this with all Factory rebuilds. (Assuming the original fan wasnt replaced earlier than at the time of the Factory Rebuild)
Please take and post pics when you can!

Kirby rebuilds

So wait, let's suppose you send in a Kirby 505 for a factory rebuild. Would that come back with a lexan fan as well?

Hello Karl.

If the Kirby 505 was rebuilt, it would have the lexan fan installed. The same fan, pulley, washer & spacer is used on the 505-515.

cheers & hagn all,

Bill

Yes, all Factory Rebuilds, reguardless of model, will come back with a lexan fan.

Thank you Bill & Brian. Now if only that 505 came back with the original black duvetyne bag, black rubber trim & Belden "lollipop" cord. At the very least, it should come back still with the original builder's plate. Just my two cents.
