The lady,

that worka all the time at the vac shop, said that contractors had these. The price was $129 and they had one with the helping hand for $200 and one like mine with a different bag for $99 with the brush in terrible shape. I love it and so does my mom. Isint this one made by bissell? Also I think this has a rare bag, It has the "XL" in square and the other like mine did not have the bag like mine. And this was the first one I saw like this with a bag like this.

Yes, but if you've ever owned an Oreck, you know how long it takes to fill a bag. I've gotten 6 or 8 months out of a single bag. They're the best value in the vacuum cleaner industry because of their size. The Genuine Kirby bags are just as expensive, and I dare say they don't last as long. Also, my daily driver Oreck is an XL-100C from 1984, so yes, they do last a long time, and you're right, the older ones are better because the impellers are metal.

On Orecks-its too bad they don't make the fan case out of metal-on the Orecks taken to vac shops for repairs-and those i have fixed for freinds-the broken fan breaks the fancase as well. Both of these parts should be metal.I have seen pennies driven by the fan thru the thin plastic fancase. The metal fans were tougher. The Oreck bags do last a while.Oreck does recommend replacing the bag each month for best efficiency. You would have to pick up A LOT of stuff to fill the large Oreck bag.I too would like to see pictures of the older first model Orecks.

I once had a fin off the fan come thru the plastic fancace what a scare that was

The fan on the older models,

like the cvr and the 4000, are the fans the same or differant?

I'm having problems with my digital camera now, but as soon as I get a new one, I will post pictures of the older Orecks. Working for an Oreck dealership, I've gotten 100C's, XL-8300's, XL-4000's, and some other early model Orecks as trade-ins. Many needed simple repairs to get them back in shape, and they now reside in my permanent collection. To answer your question, yes, the fan (as well as the entire machine) is different on a 4000 series. Only recently did Oreck discontinue the bags for the 4000 series (and needless to say, I was not a happy camper!) These were the first Orecks, made in West Germany for Oreck by a company called MacDonald Electric. Once on eBay I saw a MacDonald Electric machine that looked exactly like my Oreck XL-4300. The design originated from RCA Whirlpool, and Mr. Oreck bought the vacuum division in 1962. Oreck would never make the fan housing out of metal for two reasons - 1.) the cost (and the revenue that would be lost on broken fan housings) and 2.) it wouldn't be 8 pounds anymore!
