Does do a good job which sort of proves the point you don't really need to spend mega bucks to vacuum a really gross carpet let alone one that isn't all that dirty to begin with. |

I once owned one of those in maroon. It was a very good vacuum. It was excellent on carpet. The only drawback is that the bare floor switch on mine worked only briefly. I read somewhere that that is problematic on this model. However, the suction and airflow for the tools was strong and if it clogged, they were easy to take care of.

I think I read about your issue with the barefloor setting on the Boss while strolling through the archives. Interestingly the bare floor switch on mine doesn't feel like it's always about to break off - I haven't had any issue with it. |

I love this Eureka, and I have heard many comments about the problem with the bare-floor selector switch. Apparently, there is a proper way to adjust the setting which is indicated in the instruction manual. I think that the guide tells you to change the setting only after tilting the power head off the floor backwards onto the rear wheels when the handle is in the "down" operating position. It's a rather minor detail, but if you don't do this and try to flip the switch while the vac is in "stored" position - it is almost impossible to move and people have a tendency to force it which causes it to break. Please chime in if any of you have heard otherwise. I always say to anyone who asks me for help with a home appliance: "Don't be lazy! Read the manual!" :-) |

I don't find it any easier to move the switch in any position. I guess it's a common thing amongst the Windtunnel self propelled and the Boss 4870 to have relatively easy to break bare floor switches. |

That's really sad to hear about the 4870 floor selector switch. I thought there was some way to make moving the switch easier. :-( Actually, the top-rated Self-Propelled Hoover WindTunnel is very easy to adjust. With this upright, all you have to do is put the handle in the upright "stored" position, tilt the handle forward, almost to the point of lifting the rear of the cleaner off the floor, and then the switch is a breeze to slide over to the setting you want. Eureka should try to use the same design for any future Boss Ultra uprights. EP Brian :-) |
