Ok- first relic I have dug up in the store...a beautiful air powered tool for the Electrolux Model XXX. Don't worry- I won't start a new thread for each item, but when I come up with some cool things like this, I'll give them a separate thread. I just bought a business and paid cash- so make offers on this piece of Electrolux History. Yes, the housewife did use the polisher some, but she kept it in the original box which is in tact, but has some mold growing on it (it was underneath a pile of used brushrolls??!!). The polisher itself is beautiful and has all of the pieces with it- including the instruction manual which is ripped in two long ways across the fold. She paid $24.95 for this when it was new.

I have many, many of these ... or i'd be sorely tempted as this is by far my most "favorite thing" in the Vacuum Cleaner Kingdom.

Here's a fleet of 21 of these wonderful little space ships, ready to sort out into outer space!

Gorgeous! And can you believe that a HOUSEWIFE could use it??? The advertisement is so non-PC and for some reason that amazes me!

"P.C." was a TOTALLY alien concept back in those days, on all fronts. Hence the ads of adoring wives breaking their backs for hubby, cowering in appreciation when he deigns to buy her a new washer or sweeper, working all day long, watching the kids, having dinner on the table when he gets home, washing the dishes while he watches tv, then is expected to be "amorous" at bedtime. Life for many housewives was a living hell.

This is the "dark side" of vintage appliance collecting that people seldom want to think about. And is also why many women, especially older women, could care less about collecting old appliances!

The upside is that women have "come a long way baby," to quote a 1970s Women's Lib CIGARETTE advertisement. Which brings up a whole 'nuther area of oppression, by the Big Tobacco Companies.......
