I have a Rainbow Model D-4. The electrical cord for the powernozzel (two prong)is loose at the end of the hose where it connects into the vacuum. It keeps wiggling its way out and won't stay in. Do I replace the cord or the socket?

Thanks.

In some cases you can slightly bend the prongs a bit to create a better hold. As long as the socket isn't too wallered out, it should help.

I have that problem too. I can only suggest maybe bending the prongs a bit closer together. Other than that, I don't believe that there is really anything that can be done. It gets to be quite annoying, I can sympathize.

The brass barrels inside the socket have a split side which usually spreads over the years causing the pins to fit loosely. But the barrels are encased in a rubber socket shape. On exposed two and three pin sockets such as Electrolux & GE I have had great success carefully squeezing the barrels closed with vice grips (or you can look for the split and force in two small nails 90 degrees to the split and squeeze them).

It's not so easy with sockets that are recessed and riveted internally to the vacuum body like Air-Way and Rainbow but if you can disassemble and get inside then the rivets can be popped and the same fix performed.

In a pinch, and being surrounded by molded rubber, a cut off nail inserted next to the barrel, forcing it closed, works too.
Last resort - install a new socket.

I had the same problem. To fix it i wrapped some electrical tape around the plug so that it fits tight in the socket.
Not very elegant but it keeps the plug in place.
