Uh huh, another Dyson followed me home last Saturday. I was visiting my friends vac shop and initially pulled the DC15 out of the back to compare it to a Miele S7 in regards to going low profile under a very low coffee table. My friend said make me an offer on it, I ended up getting it for $20.

The only issues with this machine is the power nozzle motor has a short in it (when you push and pull the cleaner, the brush roll will sometimes work, or if you fiddle with the switch), the clear orange bin handle is cracked in half (hasn't detached yet), and it's missing the little guard over the hose on the handle. Besides those issues the machine looks almost unused, the bin is still very clear as well as the clear housing on the brush roll.

Can one of our Dyson experts help me out with fixing the brush roll issue (Jack & Shanon)? I think the cyclone assembly is the same one used on the DC14. The handle looks like it's glued on in the front, and I can see a screw securing it from the back. Would I be able to purchase just the handle, or would I have to buy a whole new bin lid with the handle?

I don't have any pictures because I didn't bring my camera with me to my aunts house, and she didn't have any batteries for her camera, and it's still at my aunts house at the moment. I'll be able to get some in February, however.

There is one feature I like on this machine versus the DC24 and DC25, the ribs on the ball have little rubber strips on them so it's easier on the machine and hard floors. I also like the metal rug plate too (which doesn't have a single scratch, that's how seldom this was used)! :)

Wow... Referred to as an expert :D

Quite honestly I don't know about the cleaner head. I have never taken mine apart simply because I was convinced I would break it :P I believe Jack has more experience there and may be able to help :D

However I can help you with the cyclone assembly. It is only sold through Dyson as one piece (Handle, Lid, Cyclone Assembly). You may be able to find a spare parts reseller who can sell you just the pieces you need. I am not sure what it is like getting spare parts in the US :P

If you want step by step pictures of how to disassemble to DC15 bin let me know ;)

14 & 15 used exactly the same cyclone assemblies and clear bins, Only difference being in colorings and the little piece of plastic on the lid of 15 that stops the lid closing when there is no filter, My 14 doesn't have it, not sure if all of the 14s are the same

Hope everything goes well... Let me know if there is anything else I can do to help ;)

Hi Alex,

if there's a short somewhere, there's little I can suggest, since I can't trace it without having the machine here in person!

Only other thing I can think of is that perhaps the micro-switch, which turns the brushroll on or off when you stand the cleaner upright or recline it, is sticking slightly. A little carefully-applied WD40 should sort that out.

With regards to the snapped handle, the lid can be easily removed from it's hinges by hand:

Then, assuming the DC15's lid is designed the same way as the DC14's (the DC15 is one Dyson model I don't yet have!), the removal of these 2 torx screws will allow you to pull the handle off and replace it.

Hope this helps! Did your friend at the vac shop have any suggestions about the problem with the brushroll cutting out?

DC15

I had a problem with my DC15 around eighteen months ago.

In my case, the brush kept turning even in the upright position. It turned out to be a sticky microswitch on the underside of the cleaner, that detects whether the undercarriage is extended or retracted. A quick scoosh of WD40 fixed that.

Thanks for all of the info guys. I'll order the parts I need and I'll make sure to check out the micro switch.

I found this nice used one on eBay at a very reasonable price. It hasn't been cleaned up in these pics, it'll look better once I've Autosol'd the scuffs off the head and air-duct!

For some reason, the UK versions didn't get the clear brush-housing, although the US and Australia did...

Dont you dare challenge me! :D

Instead of WD40, could I also use some 3 in 1 oil?
