I have finally been given a kirby by the original owner so off to Kirby its going to go for $47.50. It is a classic omega purchased by her husband in 1977. Question. What do I do with the bag? I dont want them to keep it and install a non original new one. Is that what they do? do I jsut sent it back with out the bag?
Thanks in advance

I thought that YOU had to be the original owner to send it off. Because I have a Classic III that came from the original owner and I didn't think I would be able to send it off?

Unless you ARE the original owner, you can't. In all honesty, with some of the horror stories I've heard about the Kirby rebuild, I'd be afraid to do it. They do a beautiful job of polishing the machine, but what you sometimes get back is a FRANKENVACUUM. I'd hate to send them, say, the model 510 I recently obtained and see it come back with all sirocco colored trim.

From what I have heard you have to send in a complete Kirby to get it rebuilt for the price that is in the owner's manual. Since you sent it in without the bag, I believe they will charge you extra for replacing the bag. The bag they will send it back with will be black, not an original style bag. If you wanted to keep the original bag you could just find another replacement bag, one you don't really care about and send it in. That way, when it comes back you have your original bag that you can put back on it.

I called Kirby before sending my my grandmothers D-80, and the rep I spoke with did confirm that if the machine came in with any parts or trim missing, that I would be charged extra for those missing parts. I had an old, tattered gold bojack bag i sent in with it, and the machine came back with a brand-new matching bag at no charge. I would definitely send some sort of bag in with it other than the original if you want to keep it.

Yes you do have to be an original owner. She happens to be my neighbor so I am going to do everything and she will help were needed, i.e. the check will be written from her and will use her address. Thanks for the information I have an old crappy bag that I will switch out before sending.
