Backs, compare I must give a huge thanks to Jeff Parker for giving me a bag for the Duo Power, without that i couldnt give the Duo Power its "walk around the house" every once in a blue moon, so thanks Jeff!

Hey there Kyle......
That's a really interesting Kenmore. I would put money down that the vac was made by Matsushita in Japan (the parent company of Panasonic). The relationship between Sears and Panasonic goes back that far, and continued through the acquisition of the Whirlpool vac plant in Kentucky (which made Kenmores for Sears from I think the 1970's) and continues to this day making vacs for Sears. Take a look at the name plate and tell us if it says "Made in Japan." One of the main reasons I am proposing a Matsushita source for this vac, is that it is almost identical to the Eureka electric carpet sweeper (I think it was called the "Power Glide") that was on the market at the time. This one did not have a cord reel, but it also had a tiny bag in the main power head. Kind of like Eureka's response to the electric carpet sweeper being sold by GE at the time. There is a really "groovy" print ad for this Eureka vac some where out there (I may have even seen it at Vacuumland as a "Picture of the Day"). It shows a groovy lady pushing this Eureka on a shag rug in some high-rise apartment somewhere. Maybe someone can upload this for us to make comparison with your 1960's Magicord.... | ||

Ah yes, the famous - and late - Eureka Lady about to backward Easy Glide her way right over the railing and off the balcony (that ain't no Patio, Lady) when she hits those fringe tassels...but at least she plunged with gorgeous hair. Perhaps she was saved when the 'self-styling ADORN' flipped wings 'Sister Bertille-d' her safely to the ground, another sort of Easy Glide. LOL What were the Ad Agency and Photographer thinking having her vacuum a deep shag loose throw rug from outside on the shallow balcony trip hazard high door sill? Dave | ||

I have never seen the Easy Glide in real life...does anyone have one in their collection? I would be interesting to see a comparison of the Easy Glide with Kyle's Kenmore Magicord - I'm convinced it's almost the same machine. Thanks for the compliments Norm! Now if I had the time, money and space, I could really set up a Eureka vac exhibit! This era of Panasonic/Matsushita vac history is really interesting to me.....It's fascinating to think that in the 1960's, when Japanese manufacturers were just getting their "feet wet" selling tv's and audio equipment to North Americans, that they also made forays into the vac market here. And the fact that they tried to sell us uprights from a country with very little carpeting, and lots of floors mats! I think that we had a thread here somewhere showing how the Eureka Emperor upright was made by Matsushita in Japan during the same era. There was also a Panasonic steel canister rebadged by some other North American vac company at the time....I think it was also a Sears Kenmore.... And remember guys - this was all some 10 years before Panasonic bought the rights to the Dial-A-Matic design and began selling really good vacs in the USA and Canada! | ||

One of my aunts had the machine on the left that says DuoPower on the base, and Sears Kenmore on the front. Wow, i havnt seen one in over 40 years! If i remember right, the handle grip has an unusal shape, and is brown. The litle port with the flap on the back side is where the hose plugs in. She didnt have the hose tho,,but i figured out thats what it was for at the time. haha ( i would have been about 5-6 yrs old) This would have been late 1960s, to very early 1970. She used it as her vacuum for carpets, and used a GE Swiveltop for above the floor cleaning and bare floors. I remember the Kenmore was really fun to use,,as it made alot of noise,,and the Magicord was really great,,was probablly the first time id seen that feature on an upright. Sure wasnt anything like Gramma's Kirby DS 50! I know my aunt got rid of the Duopower in about 1976, as bags,parts and repair were hard to come by,,they lived in a very rural area. She replaced it with a gold Hoover Custom Convertible. I know she still to this day has and uses the Convertible and the GE. Both have been repaired and parts replaced several times, of course. She told me once that the GE had been a wedding present in 1958,,and its still going strong! | ||

I'm glad you like the Kenmore! I immediately thought of you when I came across that oddball vacuum! It'll clean up great! That lime green 1030 Convertible I was working on while you were over is almost done! I had to replace the armature (ruined the old one trying to get the fan off), and lubed the motor and brush bearings. Just needs a little more cleaning and it'll be ready to go! The motor purrs! | ||

Here's a picture of Kyle deep-cleaning with a Panasonic Jet-Flo canister vacuum! This one features the "Dual-Sweep," where the brushroll counter-rotates when you pull the power head backwards. It's very easy to push, and very quiet! It's a very refined vacuum, and one of the best canisters I've ever used. Also pictured is the Kenmore! Glad it went to a good home!

 So, I have the above Kenmore from a fellow collector. I'm unable to figure out what type of bags these used. I have the square plastic adapter. I was able to jury rig an Electrolux style "U" bag by cutting off part of the card board collar on two sides. Also, what did the attachment adapter look like? I know it fits into the hole under the flap on the top. | ||

Kenmore If the bag and the motor are in the bottom,what is in the top section?It looks like the bag goes right up against the nozzle,how does the suction get to the hose? | ||

Thanks Tyler! I'm not sure if I have the correct bags or not. I can't get them to fit. It's possible the adapter is wrong. I've turned them every which way and still no sucess.
