In September I was attending a mini-meet and Duane Taylor was kind enough to give me a Kirby Tradition as I have never had one. He also gave me a beautiful set of tools and the tool box.

Later over the Halloween weekend, I was at Fred Nelson's and Tania Voigt gave me a mint hose for the Tradition.

Well, here it is back from the Kirby spa in Cleveland!

And here it is with the tools.

When it came back, it had a black cord and a black bag guard. Fearing that even more would be black, I purchased a lot of trim from ESSCO--now I have extra pieces!

Fred N. had given me a NOS blue cord which is now on it and I was able to find a NOS blue bag guard on ebay which is on it as well.

It had a "dump" back which I have converted to the Kirby disposable paper bag system. I also upgraded the brush roll and belt and it is a very nice vacuum.

The Tradition joins is fellow Kirby's from left to right:

The Dual Sanitronic 50, the Dual Sanitronic 80, Classic III, Tradition, Legend II and the Sentria.

All the colors of the rainbow in one room!

Soon to be joining the lineup is a 519 after it returns from the Kirby spa in Omaha! Then I can add a gray and red model to the line up.

Terry,

Fred N. and I were just talking on the phone earlier and we said how powerful the Kirby's are. I know there are a lot of Kirby, "naysayers", out there as I was one of them in years gone by, but, they really are wonderful vacuums.

It always amazes me how much dirt/crud comes out of the carpet even after you use another vacuum. I like to look inside the bags for dirt after multiple times using a vacuum. The Kirby bags always have an incredible amount of dirt!

When you put the 4-brush strip brush rolls on the older small head Kirby's and large head Kirby's, their performance is really something.

Terry, you saw that Tradition when we were in Milwaukee.......isn't amazing what Kirby can do?

I am very thankful to Duane for giving me this Tradition and all the tools and to Tania for providing the hose. I love my Kirby's!

Charlie

Charlie,

Great pictures. The Tradition and Classic have always been favorites of mine. Give me a Kirby or a Royal any day.

That is a beautiful Tradition! I was selling for Kirby during the last of the Traditions and into the Heritage 1 years.
That pic reminds me of how shiny new the Tradition was when brand new out of the box.
I totally agree that with a 4 row brush roll, new belt, and one of the newer (G4 and up)hepa type bags,,the Kirby of any model is a force to be reckoned with,,and in a class by itself.
The Heritage 2 Legend has been my daily driver ever since it came out in the late 1980s.
As they say, Kirby means:
Quality
Reliabality
Performance!

Charlie, you are so right!! What Kirby does is nothing short of a miracle!! I am so glad that we got to tour the part of the factory where this all happens.

All the talk here about the 4 row brush rolls makes me realize I am going to have to break down and order some!!

Charlie, enjoy your "new Tradition" !!

Terry

Brian,

You are so right about the brush rolls, belts and bags. I think the only way to use the Micron Magic bag on the Tradition is to remove the cardboard collar, (from the original yellow paper bag--it has a unique oval opening), and use a glue gun to affix it to the Micron Magic bag.

I've even put 4 brush strip brush rolls on my small head Kirby's. If you look closely at the Dual Sanitronic 50, you will see it has a mini-emptor conversion, (from a Legend II), and I had a zipper installed on the bag and it uses the Micron Magic bags!

After the Dual Sanitronic and Classic III came back from the "Kirby Spa", I never used them. I want to keep them like time capsules. I have the tools, hoses, rug shampooers, tool caddies, etc., for everyone of them. The Classic III even has the big outer box.

Terry GET those upgraded brush rolls. They are worth the money and you will also see a huge difference in the performance of the vacuum.

PS--I forgot to add:

I have a new respect for all Kirby products after seeing how they are made and the professional integrity of the employees. Many have worked for Kirby for years and some are multi-generational. They really take pride in their product.

The same goes for the rebuild department. After seeing what goes into the rebuild you just shake your head in wonderment!

What has, unfortunately, given Kirby a less than stellar name are the salespeople and their pressure techniques to buy. I hope someday that they will be available new in vacuum stores and not just door to door. It would certainly reduce the problem with, "buyer remorse".

Very true Charlie, the Kirby sales force has given them a bad name. Ive heard many horror stories,,so much that many people who always had Kirby's and swore by them, will no longer own one, just so that they dont have to deal with the Kirby people. Its a shame.
Back when i was selling,(1980-1989), we didnt have to knock on doors,or solicite in any way,,the customers called US, wanting to see (and hopefuly buy)the new machine.
Luckily for me, my experience with Kirby was positive. Evidently people still had integrity back then!
It was VERY good money back in those days,,our office was one of the highest selling in the Midwest, and had walls covered in Sales Award plaques from the home office.
I know the owner of our area distributorship drove a new car every year, took 3 month round the world vacations, and lived in a mansion,(one of several) as did his wife and grown kids and their families, all paid for by Kirby.

Absolutely yes Terry, get a 4 row brush roller on ANY and ALL older Kirbys.
Not only does it groom, clean and lift the nap of the carpet better, it also makes the Kirby easier to push, as 4 rows of brushes are more agressive than just 2. With a 4 row, the Kirby will practically pull itself along,,even a Classic series,Tradition, and Heritage. Of course a new belt is imperative too.
I had a 4 Row brush roll put on my 560, and also put a Heritage style handle bale and handle grip on it, which makes it MUCH easier to use.
Seems like the little single pole handle they put on the 500 series, and DS50 makes the machine hard to turn or go side to side.
I know a 560 with a Heritage style handle makes it a franken-Kirby, but sure makes it easier to use.
I hate to see a 500 series handle on a Classic!,,,not THAT is funny looking! haha
I put a 4 row brush on my Classic 1CR, new belt, bag and tightened up the bottom of the Emptor,,and the machine performs better than when it was brand new.
Quality
Reliablity
Performance = KIRBY!!

Beautiful Lineup Charlie...

This is the first I've seen of this thread.

I'm envious. Beautiful lineup; flawless machines. Lucky you! They all look mint! How fun.

Thanks for sharing.
