Have any of you noticed that the Royal Lexon S20 canister looks exactly like the Hoover Anniversary Canister which looks exactly like a Miele canister down to the look of the hose, tools, canister body and type of wheels?
My Hoover Anniversary Canister does have a cheaply made Hoover Windtunel power nozzle that refuses to stand by itself and is very noisy and a hose that is too short and wants to kink and bind. The Anniversary canister has hepa bags and filter and is quiet but not very powerful or easy to pull around the house. You wonder who makes what or if they are all ther same thing with just a different label on top! I was shocked when I checked out the Royal web site.

Personally, I wouldn't think Miele is part of this equation, but the location of the switches, LED lights, and the telescoping wan mechanism are practically identical between Royal, Hoover, and the Tacony machines.

take a look at the pics of the Riccar and Simplicity mid size canisters:

Here's The Simplicity:

These are already their updated models. Tacony had a model 2 years ago that resembled the Hoover/Royal even more closely, but it's already been retired. Another tip off: the power nozzle for Royal's AiroPro is identical to the one on the Fuller Brush and also on certain Shark/Fantom models.

Are we really so surprised at the yawn-inducing sameness of these? It's because they are what I call PodVacs. All the components and switches and cordwinders and stuff are sourced from the same oriental parts companies and placed in the same chassis layout before the decorative 'individual' plastic shell skins are screwed on and the purloined Company Brand label affixed. Fix one, you've fixed them all. Trash one, no loss. Don't get me wrong, I have a few choice podvac examples myself I find charming in their naivety.

Reminds me of the look-a-like range of cars GM, Ford and Chrysler were 'styling' in the blocky 80s decade. Change a bumper shape or a side marker lens and maybe no one will notice the doors are interchangeable.

Pod Vacs...Yes, they are stylish, Yes, they are powerful, Yes, the Power Nozzles encompass a wide range of applications, Yes, they come in the colour of the moment. Yes, they range in price from Wallydirt cheap to through the roof status symbol. They are all cloning Miele originality and innovation. But at the end of the day, week, month, year or end of life - whichever comes first - they ain't metal and they ain't vintage and they don't collect much dirt in those small bags and they won't be around for our descendants to collect.

Just had to comment, ya know.

Dave
