Brushroll bearings? i m guessing when the vacuum is pushed forward the brushroll comes in contact with the carpet and it rattles. Just a guess..

This started to happen with me when I adjusted the brushes height. I always thought it was vibrating so fast that the headlight was making the noise.

The end caps on the brushroll may be broken maybe its time to get a new brushroll.

the brushroll is brand new, and it still makes the noise when I lift the headlight off the nozzle.
Im gonna get some foam tape and put it on where it meets the
fan housing.
Only a Tiny bit thought, so it dosent look stupid.

I think it is a simple fix...you wont' need the foam. If memory serves me, you can slightly bend in and down the two wings the brush fits in and it solve will your problem.

Rattling...

Morgan,

You are on the right track...

...I may be incorrect; however, I believe it may actually be the (4) four tabs the brushroll slips into (2) two on each end. They may & should be slightly bent inward to tighten the fit for the brushroll end caps. (imho)

Hope this helps.

email if add'l help is needed.

Kirby Legend Rattle

I bought my Kirby Legend new in 1988-89. It has been my main vac used in the house for all this time (before collecting vacs) and mine has had that rattle since day one. It seems to do it when the nozzle is adjusted correctly and the carpet is lifted off the floor. I thought it was just from the vibration from the brush.

Kirby Legend 2 Rattle

My Legend 2 has never made a noise. But some of my other Kirby's that I have got from other folks do rattle. What I find on most of them is the bottom plate that the brushroll fits into is slightly bent. When I bent them so they were flat all the way across the rattle went away. See if your brush roll plate is bent (I'll bet this might fix your problem)

Also, guys......check the rubber ring/gasket that is seated inside the ridge of the fan housing. Often times this is missing after many years and the nozzle does not seat securely. I had this same rattling on a Hertiage and as fine an eye as mine, I even didn't notice that it was gone.

A loud vibration rattle has also developed on my Legend II.

It's not Roller Bearings; the Roller is brand new.
I tightened the Roller Support Tabs (bent them inward); no difference.
Checked & adjusted roller height; no difference.
Checked Motor Casing 'O'-Ring Gasket where the Brushroll Head meets it; all present & correct.
Swivel Turnbutton is very tight; gripping head securely.
Headlight is very tight; it wouldn't vibrate.

Now I'm replacing the rectangular Rug-Plate Felt Gasket.

Belt lifter, belt hitting bottom plate. Bottom plate not clipped correctly. The nozzle attached to the prongs off-center. Motor casing a screw loose, the heritage safety switch had a piece bust off. Your impellor from fan hitting belt lifter?
Loose rivet on nozzle trim, wheels shaking.

This also happened to me.

Try vacuuming with the headlight in the raised position. If the rattle stops, the the problem is with the headlight assembly.

To fix it just rotate the nozzle latch to the One O' Clock position and lower the headlight. This is what fixed my rattling problem.

While you're looking at the roller plate

also check the ends of the roller, I think they were still putting a little soft plastic cap on each end that makes for a tighter fit as you load the roller into the brackets. I've seen some pretty beat up caps. It's just one more thing to check. My older Kirby's were prone to rattles like that. Also the foam gasket on the plate is a culprit, good luck!

Kirbfan94,

I solved my Kirby nozzle rattle. Thought I'd share the solution in case it helps.
The problem was in fact, in three areas.

Rugplate rattle. New gasket helped, but deep vibration persisted.
One End support brackets needed squeezing slightly tighter.
Main problem: New Brushroll's height was out. (I thought it was okay). Needed 2 1/2 undo turns on each end-screw to retract roller slightly.

Hope it helps.
