For the past few years I have been using my Hoover SteamVac Gold Edition from 1998 I believe. I could be wrong. It is the top of the line model for that time. It has done me good since then. We shampoo something at least once a week. We have two dogs and a cat so stuff happens :P. My Gold Ed. is about ready to die, so I was curious as to if anyone knows a good shampooer? I refuse to own a Bissell. I have had one of those Pro Heat 2x's, and the turbos and whatever other shampooers they make, I've had, and they ended up on the curb. I really like my Hoovers. I have heard mixed reviews on the Dual V. Is that any good? I will try to push for the Hoover Platinum Carpet Cleaner. It looks amazing, with the spin scrub and the scrubber that the Bissell's have. And the clean shot and everything else it has. If anyone knows anything about them, or how good they are. Or any others that are good. Thanks
-Chase-

I recently bought a Hoover Spin Scrub with Clean Surge. It was the top rated machine with several rating sites, including epinions. The man at the Vac shop where I bought also recommended it over the Dual V, and he sold both. The dual V was higher so he wasn't trying to up sell me.

He said that they had problems with the crystal plastic on the dual V, and was sure that the Platnium machines would show the same problem as they were using the same plastics.

Other than telling you that the Spin Scrub did an excellent job. It replaced a 17 year old Bissell Big Green Clean Machine, and the results were amazing. I can't offer much more, but I hope this helps.

As much as I am a Hoover rebel after owning the Dual V, If you insist on going with a Hoover get the old style as "kirbysthebest" mentioned.

I hope you didn't toss out your Bissell Big Green,I bought one in '92 and it was over 250.00 with the service policy, never a regret, still going strong, had the pump replaced under warranty, they said to always run clean water through it without shampoo, Its still working great to this day,its cleaned just about everyone's car that I know and most of their houses,it has unclogged drains, vacuumed up water from anything overflowd, used mine the other day to clean out the drain on my Friedrich window A/C with it still in the window, also cleaned the coils with the forced water from the pump and vacuum water pickup,I have a Hoover spin brush steam cleaner,A Kenmore(Koblenz)shampooer and a Kirby Rug Renovator but still like to put hot water in the Bissell for a final rinse on the carpets.

No I did not toss the BGCM. It is still working fine, the hose is getting brittle, the pump was recently replaced for $39.95 but the design was killing my back. I bought this unit in 1992 off an infomercial and never regretted it. I wanted an upright type machine with brushes that didn't kill by back so much. I didn't like the tank design on the Bissell uprights. I really wanted a Rug Doctor, but couldn't justify the price. Hence I went with the Hoover and don't regret it, it did an excellent job, it was easy to use and not too bulky. I only wish it had a slightly larger tank. I am used to cleaning a little longer with the canister type machine that holds two gallons of cleaning solution. The Hoover only holds a gallon, so you get to clean about a 4X8 section before you have to refill.

I use the BGCM on the stairs, cars and furniture now; it's only in semi-retirement. It will be my loaner when family members wants to borrow my carpet cleaner.
