Paul and myself spent the weekend chasing appliances which included the collection of a recent ebay purchase from Glossop.

We planned to travel from Crewe to Glossop and from there down the A roads through the Peak District en route to collect a Hotpoint washing machien from Birmingham.

This route took us via Buxton, Ashbourne and finally through some of Leicestershire in which we stopped off for a nosey around.

One rather quaint little appliance repair shop tucked away in one of the stop offs had me and Paul nearly dying for seeing the obsolete parts they carried and when we got the owner in conversation about our collection it came out he had a self driven Hoover cleaner somewhere.

Well minutes later after a discussion about them he dissapeared upstairs to his store rooms and brought down one of these.......

After cooing over it for a few minutes we progressed the discussion onto other things, the guy was a haven of knowledge all things Hoover and Hotpoint and ended up giving us some Hoover Service manuals which we had not seen before.

As we were leaving he signalled for us to not forget the Concept 1 to which I nearly passed out. I offered payment but he wouldnt accept, such an unexpected gesture!!!!

Trunion?

aeoliandave's profile picture
What is a trunion? Closest I can find in my Merriam Webster is 'trundle' (to roll along, to wheel) right before 'trunk'. Am I getting warmer? Oh, that colourful British language...much of which we use in Canada.

Excellent adoptees, Robert & Paul. A PowerDrive Concept one with cordwinder - very very nice.

Dave

If I'm correct.....

I have heard of a trunnion in relation to a steam locomotive. Like the hangy thingy that axle springs would be mounted on.

Or,

I think half of a universal joint is a trunnion.

maybe?

Rick

PS....spellcheck wants it spelled this way....trunnion.

TWO new words in one day! Wow!

aeoliandave's profile picture
Trunnion: especially: either of two opposite gudgeons on which a cannon is swiveled.

I'm in high dudgeon over truncheon-ing onions. I loathe onions. Won't eat 'em. Pick 'em out of my food; that's my opunnion. Do like vacuum cleaners. Hangy thingie?

Dave, Sunday night off, Monday is day off, playing with my refurbished upgraded 1.5 Ghz DVDdl Mac CUBE running Leopard. I WILL learn OSX and be converted. I WILL not buy into Windows7, which is damnittohell Vista with all the missing XP bits PUT BACK IN. argh. :-)

What type of agitator does that UK Concept have? Did it come with the bottom plate?

I wonder how the cleaning performance compares with the Turbopower/master?

i wonder why the concept was a big flop over in the UK

to you for getting this Concept 1, just shows that good fortune can smile on us all - personally I put it down to clean living and thinking pure thoughts. You can imagine how pure my thoughts have been given that I have just paid £126 for one of these myself. Now, where are my wax dolls and pins LOLOL

I don't think I've paid more than $15.00 for my Concept 1s.

Dave doesn't like onions in his luncheons? Doesn't care for the munchin?

Hangy thingy? Oooh, that sounds so dirty.......

You guys are pretty much spot on with Trunnion so I wont say a word and let the romantic words you have found leave their effect.

Al, yes a shocker completely and when he said just take it I nearly choked comsidering the fortune these machines bring in the UK.

I will be honest and did look at the £5 I had in my wallet once the spare part I bought was paid for seemed like an insult to his genorosity and kindness so I dropped the matter as not to offend - however I did put the £5 into Tesco's charity of the year fund for Muscular Dystrophy.

However monetary value aside its the machine and the joy it brings to me that counts. No ebayer or insurance policy can pay for that joy.

Now for the crunch, It is missing its brushroll to which I assume will be the Quadraflex and also the baseplate. Belt also needed as also the Powerdrive pully which the belt hooks onto.

I had a hunch that a local repair shop had a Quadraflex in his window but a lucnhtime walk solved the mystery and he didnt so I now need to find these parts to get the poor thing up and running again.

Parts seem to be way obsolete in the UK, even copy parts although I have located some bags.

DOes anyone have a clue as to where I can get what I need?

Cheers

Rob

Rob,
It might be worth a go - there maybe someone on there who might have a brushroll, amongst all the spare parts they seem to have ......

Al, I think I know who you mean about lots of spare parts :)

Il see what turn up my end first, I mean I wouldnt want to trouble anybody.

I will keep my eyes peeled on ebay USA but postage can blow the cost out of the window.

Be just my luck id buy what I needed to find one on a skip the week after.

Ebay USA is totally out the question im afraid. The parts I need to complete the cleaner will cost me £150 excluding postage.

I cant believe how pricey the parts are for an obsolete cleaner. The brushroll alone was 40 odd quid before postage! eeeeek!

Rob,

I am in the middle of aquiring a Hoover Concept for parts from a local Craigslist ad. If the brushroll is good I will send it to you as well as the bottom plate and a few belts so you can get you Concept running. I will let you know when I get it.

Sam

Sam thats sounds wonderful.
Thankyou.

What will the postage cost be like? Should I now also mention without being greedy that I forgot to inform that the drive pulley is missing and also I think there is a button missing off the handle.

Feel free to email me if the parts become available and im sure we can come to some agreement/swap. Perhaps you would like some UK goodies in return?

Kenmore81 I know what you mean about the leaning Turbomaster/Innovation so if I find the part you need to correct this Ialso would have no issues doing a swap or something.

I will have a look to see if I have the part you need and let you know.

Cheers guys,
