The Certified Universal perhaps should be on this thread. After I started the clean up process, inside the box of tools was the bill of sale..

Anothe E-Bay purchase.

I think this said is was a model 5406. Stark product, but Royal offered the same color combo. I think this is one of Royals nicest looking machines. The color, hubcaps..they went all out on this one.

Cute little Regal Crown hubcaps. How very Royal.

or is that to match the Royal Crown Scotch for heavy cleaning days?

Dave, ducking/running.

Btw Morgan, is that a T-Fal steam iron on the right? I got mine at Sears to replace the 15 year old pooched T-Fal primarily for the sharp show tunes...er pointy shoe toe for getting around those button-down collar & neck buttons every morning. :-)

Dave,

The first iron on the shelf is an Oreck, came with my Oreck XL21. the other one was a gift from Mike Buffington and it is a Rowenta. It is a great iron. The Oreck is cordless and I don't like it.

Thanks, Morgan. My other 'modern' iron is a Rowenta pressure Steamer on a base with a hose and I love it for serious ironing sessions and sewing. It has the same pointy toe as a T-Fal so that's why I asked..

Yay Royal!

I rediscovered this machine this weekend. I had found a rug nozzle for it a few weeks ago at an estate sale.
It belonged to my grandparents - they used it to clean their Jewelry Store. I vividly remember playing with this when I'd go visit my grandparents, after they sold their store and brought it home. It's also one of the vacuum of mine Jay Leno used when I was on his show. Date stamped inside the bag housing is 1973.

I'd like to get some ball-casters for it, the wheels it currently has aren't the greatest. It doesn't roll very easily.

I've always especially loved the Royal attachments.

Hi Morgan,

I have a Royal 606 that looks just like this machine only it has a Royal bag on it. The light cover and Bell Housing are just like yours. Royal made more than one design/ridges on their machines. Great machine. This is a clone I have never heard of either. I have an older Stark that is a beauty. It has the red/gray colors like an Electro Hygiene. Mine is older and no fancy things on it like wheel covers LOL. Jim

Morgan - about the STARK

portable's profile picture
Stark's Vacuums in Portland, Oregon, is such a huge (old) Royal dealer, they were given their own badged Royals, called Stark, several years ago. I can't tell you how many years ago - possibly back to the 50s? Earlier? John L.
