Does anyone know how old this would be? The suction is terrific! I'm thinking that the hose is not original, any thoughts? The floor tool seems original and maybe the two other attachments pictured. Also it has it's dolly that it rides on.

Guy, the hose is a replacement for sure. I remember these from the mid 1950's Hope that helps. Terry

Hey Guy. I had that vacuum only in green without the dolly,it was left in my old house when we moved in and it had the same hose and attachments,so Im thinking that hose is original. The old couple that lived b4 we did were the type to take care of things but at the same time if something broke they would use a temporary fix or just leave it as is.
That leads me to belive our hoses were/are both original.
Our Eureka experts could tell better.
Nice find BTW.
Kenny

Hey Guy -

What you have is the second variation of the first Eureka Roto-matic. The first had screw-type latch openings on the lid; yours has the clamping latches.

Those are the original bare floor and rug nozzle and dusting brush, but that hose is probably not original. They were very popular machines, very heavily advertised in national magazines like Life, Look, Saturday Evening Post. Kenny is right - they also came in green, and, I think later, when they were redesigned, they got bigger and more powerful.

Awhile back, someone posted some info about this and later models. Congrats - that should be a nice addition for your collection. John L.

Hey:

Yes the parts are original and no the hose isnt original. The red machine had a greyish white, cloth weave hose and the green machine had a matching green cloth weave hose.

I have pictures of both on my web site (but my red machine is slightly newer with the changed dolly) www.dkas1.50megs.com...

Haha...

I just sent one of these to the Goodwill! It was in OK shape. It had all the attachments except the rollers. The canister was dented here and there. The original hose was cloth. It had the original documents and owners manual, a package of bags, a print out of a Roto-Matic advert, AND....the original big grey vinyl-covered storage box!

I WOULD have sold it, but it would have been too big and heavy for me to bother shipping it.

This takes the elusive Eureka 'J' bag which is similar in all dimensions to the readily available Compact bag, which can be pressed into service. The Compact bag cardboard ring is about 3/4" larger in diameter but makes a perfect fit due to the Eureka's rubber sealing ring and the large span clamp-on lid.

info! I need to find the crevice tool and the storage box. I have seen the boxes in the past, but never picked one up.
