I have a Kirby 514 that I use as my daily vacuum. It works great. Recently it has been making a noise while it runs. So I decided to take it into the local Kirby dealer to see what they think. It ended up that the brush on it was making the noise so ended up just buying a new brush and belt. While we were there he suggested I replace the bag in it(It is the original bag, so 50 plus years old). The current bag does have a small hole in it towards the bottom but we sewed it up and so far seems to work just all right. I was just wondering if I should change the bag(If I do I'm keeping the original) or if I should even worry about it. Thanks for any info.

Kirby 514 Bag

Justin,

I would definitely keep the original bag. Do you have a pic of it? I would love to see it! I have a 514 also and it was the model my mom had when I was growing up. I am sure I have the right bag myself, but I would like to compare notes......

Ask the Kirby dealer if you can purchase or if he has another Sani-Emptor (for free) onto which you can purchase a new cloth outer bag--the one that is tan with the Kirby cirlces. The new bag will feel thinner because it isn't laden with dirt. And, you will notice an increase in airflow.

I am defineatly keeping the original bag for sure. He said he currently doesn't have any bags in stock but that he could order one. Should I purchase one? Or does anyone here have an extra bag that they would be willing to sell? I will take some pictures later this week. Thanks
