As the budget model, it did not have the plastic handgrip of the more expensive models. It was rated at 400watts - same as the first (more expensive) 80. I know the 80 was later uprated to 550 watts, but cannot say the same about the 77. It was also the first UK lux to use a flip over nozzle, as also the first one to use this type, which carried on for years. I know, a flip over thread picker was common right back to the 1920s, but this was the first, complete flip over

Actually, my recollection was that the switch was blue, as with mine - it also matches the trim around the end covers. However, it is perfectly possible that it was replaced at some time through wear or that Lux simply changed the colour at some point, as they often made minor changes throughout a model's life. I was surprised that the switch on the 64 was blue as well though, so that may have been changed during its life. Al |

one of the reasons i wanted to see the underside was to see if it had the hanging bracket like other luxes? As for the switch it was probably replaced Si |

Certainly can do some pictures for you. The rear of the 77 is identical to the 64, and yes both have hanging brackets. In fact, externally both machines appear to me to be identical, aside from the colour scheme, the handle and the gliders. Actually it does not sound like there is much left to be identical LOLOL Interestingly the rating plate for both these machines is at the front end up by the hanging bracket, whilst as far as I am aware mots other models have it towards the back. Like the other budget models (48/60/87) they are Electrux on the rating plate rather than Electrolux, although of course the cleaners bear the full name. Al |

1951-1978???????????????? Sorry, could not resist that at all :) It was 1951 to 1956, when it was replaced by the virtually identical 60. I have a 60, but no tools although they appear to have been similar to the 55 tools. i have a 48 manual scanned if you are interesed. The 64 is rare (can only recall seeing two in 8 years of ebaying, and I bought one of them) a Challenge 64 even more rare - you are very lucky to have the Challenge 65. I also have the predecessor model to the 48, the 116. This holds a special place in my collection as it was the first cleaner I ever collected - thats rare too ... Al |

It great when you can get somthing out of a skip thats both in good order and runs well. My second collected cleaner was a Junior 119 left out for the bin men. In fair condition and still ith moulded plug, it stil runs well. All it needed was a replacement bag, which it now has - an original 119 bag. My most recent "find" was a grey hardbag Turbomaster chucked out by the office next to mine when they were closing down - harly a mark on it and running well too. Maybe I am just plain mean ...... Yes, the wands were plastic, as was the hose handle. As far as I am aware this was the first, and for a long time the only, mainstream use of plastic until Hoover in the early 1980s (or was it late 70s?). I say mainstream because my sister was given a vacuum cleaner as a wedding present (1974) which was made in the, then Soviet bloc which had plastic tubes. I think it was a "Band" or something like that, it also had a stretch hose. Anyway I am digressing ..... The carpet nozzle was not seen on any other lux that I am aware of, it was not the same as the 62. The floor nozzle was not the same as the 62 either, but resembled the plastic one used on the late 55 models only in cream rather than black Al |
