I went to Austin and met up with Eric (ttuee). Traded some machines. I traded his Sanitaire and Kirby G3 for my Panasonic Jet-Flo, Eureka power drive, and Dirt Devil Broom Vac. Had a great day went thrifting.. I also recently acquired a Dyson DC-17 what a POWERHOUSE! The link are the machines I traded.

I'm sure it was a good day. I love that Panasonic Jet-Flo. I would love to find one like yours with the different speeds and headlight. Really a shame Hoover sold the patent to Panasonic so early on. I've always felt the Concept I "dirty air" system was a real step back. Had Hoover improved on the design, who knows what could have been possible. I wonder if Hoover ever made a prototype Dial-A-Matic II! I know there was a one-off Constellation made entirely of lucite in the Hoover vault.

Very cool, Austin. You and Eric must have had a lovely day. So, got the G3 and Sanitaire and he got the Broom Vac and other machines huh? Fun vacuums!

I personally prefer the Concept over the DAM!

And that's why Baskin Robbins makes 31 flavors. Everyone has their particular preferences. I think the DAM would fare alot better if it sucked up by accident, say a penny. Plus, the Concept was alot noisier. The soft bag can't dampen the sound as well.

I prefer the soft bag because it balloons out and that's one of my favorite things! I also think the Concept isn't quite as heavy and that the transmission is better, but that could just be my perception. I don't care about it being fan first because I think fan first vacs are more powerful than clean air ones in a lot of cases. It even has a handle release pedal on both sides.. they really thought of everything! LOL Plus it doesn't have a bottom fill bag! But yes, I enjoy everyone's different opinions and that is truly what makes us unique!

Did you ever fix your Oreck 100CC motor?

I'm glad you asked Bobby, after getting everyone's opinion there was no way I could salvage the old motor for a reasonable cost, so I bit the bullet and installed a new motor I had laying around. I really hated like hell to do this, as it gives the machine a different sound. The original 2.8 amp motor took a little longer to get up to speed and wasn't quite as powerful, but it also wasn't as noisy. Personally, the more energy efficient a cleaner is, the better. New Orecks have a 4 amp motor. I do have other 100C's in my collection (we would see them from time to time as trade-in's at Oreck - I would only bring them home if they still had the original perforated vinyl outer bag), but this was one of my earliest examples and it is in mint condition. You're probably right about the transmission being better in the Concept 1, I just thought this was when Hoover started getting really chintzy making the machine with a plastic base.
