Very Cool! I've seen those around occasionally. Is the Maytag name on Hoover machines pretty rare? It had to have been a pretty limited run. | ||

I think you'll like it...
I have a Duros,IIve had it for 5 years and had the same problem with the wires at the machine end of the hose,but other than that its surprisingly durable. Its dying now but considering its been through hell and back and it seems cheap and flimsy I think I got my $$$ worth. I used it as my downstairs vac for the first 3 years then its been in use in the utility rooms because you can't buy(or couldnt 2 years ago)just the brushroll and its quite worn I guess from my flat ugly carpet thats sitting on cement with no padding left lol. also the caniser has fallen down my (7) stairs at least twice and only got a few scratches. So all in all its not a bad vac but it is kida clumbsy,and the small brushroll doesn't "deep clean" to well,but I figured that anyway when I got it and bought it anyway cause like I sait the carped I used it for is flat. Just my 11 ams worth lol Ken | ||

Interesting background to the Hoover/Maytag Duros....
It was actually made by Sanyo of Japan. Sanyo had their own name on an identical vacuum for a few years before Hoover started selling them. The power nozzle has been sold by Sanyo on many of their canister models for years. Now that Panasonic has bought Sanyo, I am not sure from where Hoover is getting them. Very highly rated by Consumer Reports, due to high air flow in the hose for tool use. The first ones on the market were rated "unacceptable" due to faulty bag holders - this must have been fixed by Sanyo at some point. Sanyo
When the Duros first came out I couldn't find bags for a long time anywhere but Hoover.com and they were always sold out. So I seen the sanyo bagless and went to sanyo.com and saw Duros copy(or mold lol),thennn I went to the vac shop n got the Sanyo bags. What a project in the begining.Now I can just go to Home Depot n get them.

Maytag badge The Hoover Duros is still available, but the model with the Maytag badge didn't have a long run -- I'm guessing. That's why I'm thinking that that particular one with the Maytag badge would be rare. But I'm only guessing. | ||
