My grandparent's vacuum just died and they need a new one. I found this Elite 350 at a Goodwill and need some help.

1. Can Z bags be used instead of A?

2. How do you reclamp the bag?

3. How long will this last under normal use. (2-3 times a week)

Thank you so much!

Actually, I would grab it without hesitation, but would give your grandparents a late model Convertible instead. These early Elites are getting harder and harder to find, and the late convertibles are still alot more plentiful. I'm pretty sure the Z bags have the same size opening as the A style, but why would you want to do that when A bags are still readily available in most places? Just my two cents....

My guess would be that you have Type Z bags on hand at the moment or thats what your grandparent's have left from the dead vac.You can use type A,Y,and Z bags in the Elite the only differance is the length.Type A's are the longest and type Z I belive are the shortest, If you put them all side by side adn compare where the "replace bag" lines or dots are they are almost the same capacity. you will get an extra few days out of the A bag because there is more distance to the fill tube, but IIRC the distance from the line to the end of the bag is about the same.Ill double check when I get home. But to answer your ? yes you can use Z bags, and I would snach that Elite in a heartbeat.

Me and my grandparents and going to get it and replace the brush roll. I said if the don't like it they can have one of my Hoovers. Does anyone know how long this will last?!

Quite awhile if it is taken care of. Convertibles are definitely more durable though. I've seen many an Elite thrown away because someone sucked up a screw, and it broke the fan housing....

Could someone tell me step by step how to replace the brush-roll? It looked harder than most Hoovers at the Goodwill. Will I able to find the owners manual online?

Would they give you the cleaner if you offered them a trade? If it's in good shape, it might be worth pursuing....

It's not the most nice looking used vacuum and the owner said they LOVE it. We'll just find another.

I saw the Elite. Should I bid, or save my money for thrift store vacuums?

I'm not gonna flame it this time if you are talking about that Hoover Elite 5.0 (Kmart version) that is currently being sold on eBay. I bought a Hoover Elite 350 from that same seller because I wanted one in nice shape and what I got was a cleaner with a warped fan and busted fan housing. The insides were completely covered in dust, and I ended up swapping out the motor unit. I don't know where this seller is getting all these early Elites from, but BE CAREFUL!!!

My personal opinion

Stay with the thrift stores for now, check yard sales and maybe estate sales.
