i love royals and the various names they carry eg, hild, stark, and regal to name a few.

found this one yesterday, "Mercury". anyone seen or have one.

I've never seen a Royal clone that I though of as being modern. This is a new development. I never really expected this kind of thing since the TTI takeover. It looks like the base model commercial cleaner that was painted. I don't think its offered as a Royal anymore, but I'm not 100% sure of that.

Holy cow!! that places prices for what is the entry level Royal metal upright with dump bag is a RIPOFF!.Nice machine-but you can get them cheaper in other places.The Royal version is still available-usually from a Royal dealer.I have a painted one like that in my collection-but with the orange bag that uses paper inner bags-"B"bags.the grey painted ones are the lowest priced models.I also have several grey twill Royal dump bags.

I've always been curious...how do you empty one of those bagless twill thinga-ma-jeeps? It seems like all of the dirt would stay near the bottom, and when you detach it the dirt would just dump out.

Assuming there's an answer for that, I still don't see how you would empty it. Do you have to shake it out, hence it gets all over the place (like the ole' vacuum cleaner dirt exploding in your face visual cliche from older films).

Even better, why does that site still sell paper bags for it?

The newer grey Royal dump bags have a plastic top fill tube in them-some had a cloth fill tube.This why the dirt will stay in the bag when you take it off to empty it.The clamp that also hooks to the cleaner handle slides off the top of the bag so you can then just dump the dirt out into a trash container.The Royal bags that use the inner paper bags have a zipper opening on the back of the cloth bag-they have a fill tube(B Bag) version that the paper bag snaps onto.Older "A" bag Royals-A bags are just like Eureka F&G bags-the F&G bags will fit Royal vacuums that use "A" bags.The "B" bag system is better and easier to use.The cloth dump bags do not use the paper bags.You have to order the machine with the outer cloth bag(Orange in color)-though some are grey-anyway tyhe Royal outer bags that use paper bags have a zipper opening on the back of the bag-the dump bags have the slide off bag clamp on the top of the bag.If you empty the dump bag carefully you won't get dirt all over-I would suggest you empty them outside into a trash can so you don't get any fine dirt that goes into the air back into the area you just vacuumed.I find they are no more messy to dump than most bagless vacuums that have the dirt cup.Unlike Hoover,Koblentz,or Eureka Royal didn't make "dirt cup" bags-the cloth bag system with the dirt cup under the cloth bag part.I have the Hoover Guardian,Koblentz,and Eureka "Sanitare" vacuums that have the dirt cup bags.
