I got this off of Craigslist for 10 dollars. Well I am having issues. It only needed a belt, but it wasn't packed good enough so bits and pieces of plastic from the motor got caught in the fan. I banged it on the ground and got 3 large pieces out, and I heard less buzzing and more airflow. Then I took out the motor and fan, and the fan was clear. I put it back together and all it did was buzz so it was worse. So the plastic is all jammed up in the carbon brushes. I would send it back, but considering the condition and that it is so rare, I mine as well keep. Hopefully my good friend Davis will help me get it going as good as new. But does anyone have any suggestions if I should contact the guy? Should I try to get some of my money back?

The person may give you some money back or just say "sorry bout that". But it looks like an awsume vacuum Id try working on it some more or if all else fails replace the motor.

But just one important comment. This model was never labelled or marketed as the "Vanguard." That name was reserved for the previous version with the boxier headlight and the white or beige (not gold) bag. I even think all Vanguards had the cord-reel box on the handle, and that's where you would see the word "Vanguard" printed. I think those models did not end in "2", but in zero, as in 2080 or 2070.

The cordreel on the 2082 would just say "Cordaway", not Vanguard.

Still a stunning machine that is worth keeping, even if it means entirely replacing the motor inside. You can not find a better carpet cleaner from the 1970's than this one!

What is the exact origin of this plastic anyway? It sounds like something must be seriously damaged to produce that much broken plastic. The outside looks just fine though, which makes your problem that much more interesting.
