How do I get off a rusty upper bearing retainer? Thanks.

It would be more helpful to know what kind of motor it's got. Is it one of the blender motor or is it a pancake motor machine?

Believe it or not, some of the pancake motor machines are designed to have the motor hit the trash can when the bearings go. My 7 amp Sanitaire is like this.....the top of the shaft has 2 punch marks to "mushroom" the end of the shaft so the bearing can never be removed. If the bearing goes, in the bin goes the motor...

Geez...

Vacuum companies know how to get ever dime out of you!!!
Why they couldn't make something like that replaceable?!

On some motors they are. Just my particular one isn't. In actual practice, shops generally change out the whole armature when changing that bearing anyway. They're not expensive, and pulling that upper bearing is a PAIN.....even with the proper tools!

It's the pancake style 7 amp motor. The bearing is still good but the previous owner of the vacuum must have kept it in the garage or basement as there was a good bit of rust on some parts.
