I received this from my new friend Greg here in Omaha this weekend. He decided he wanted to part with it, so he gave it to me! I'm very happy with it, I've always wanted to find an older convertible with a metal base. It's really in good shape, just a few minor things. The hood is cracked, so if anyone has a spare hood they are willing to sell or part with, let me know :-) The only other thing that was wrong with this was the swtich was bad, but I replaced that with a lot of Hoover switches I recently got on eBay.

Thanks Greg!!!!!!!!!!!

Beautiful!

I love the sound those old Convertibles make! You'll have a lot of fun with that machine!

Here's Mine

I call it a classic, since it was from my youth. Probably one of the best carpet cleaners known to mankind. And beautiful too! With attachments and tool bag. Love the Ultraflex hose. I am not sure what the production numbers were, but if I am not mistaken, they made over 500,000 of them.

I remember that one that Greg had. I played with it during the the 07 convention.

Andrew and Fred, those are fine looking machines. I was never what you'd call a "Hoover man", but the Hoover aficionados here might be starting to change my mind.

And what a great gift! If there's a crack in the hood, I don't see it in the pic either. Enjoy!

Still Perfect To Me!

vacfanatic's profile picture
The crack has been repaired prior but when you screw the hood down, it causes it to come apart again. I just loosened up the screw that holds the side of the hood where it's cracked, and it's not as noticable. Merely something cosmetic, not a big deal. It is older than I am anyway, I don't expect it to be perfect :-)

I have not really had a chance to play with it too much, aside from after I replaced the switch in it. I'll try and do a video of it this weekend and post it on YouTube. Greg is trying to get me to start smuggling in washers and dryers... I'll be a dead man if the boyfriend catches me dragging home large appliances. I did tell him that I wanted just 1 top load washer... so he's been forewarned!

Andrew

Of course you'll want a vintage Kenmore Roto Rack dishwasher as well which can always sub for a serving cart, extra counter space or kitchen island.

and you'll probably need a nice GE Stratoliner range to go with all of that too

These two Connies would probably both be model 86's IIRC.

nice cool vintage Hoovers; that's why I don't care about the newer ones (Concept 2, Elite, WindTunnel) All I need is some DAMs, FAMs (1960s-70s) shag carpets & Jetsons-style furniture 2 make my home 'shag-a-delic!'
