I got this in Lincoln, NE today from a referral I had. The owner I believe found this in an old farm house, so she took it. It is in very good shape, and the motor runs very nice for it's age. The wheel is broken in half, but it's a very clean break, and I'll be able to glue it back on. Since this won't see any heavy use, it will hold just fine. As usual, I'll share some post cleanup photos once I get around to this. Still working on my Kirby Sanitronic.

Nice drawings of the cleaner Jack! Thanks!!! I'm really unsure if the motor was rewound or whatever they do when they convert them to 120 volts. The previous owner stated it ran fine before I even got it, so I didn't even think to look @ the rating plate before I plugged it in and fired it up. It sounds normal to me, but I'm guessing that it might have been running faster than it should have. I only had it on for a short moment anyway. Until I can figure out how to really tell if the motor has been converted to 120 AC or not, I won't be running it again. I'm going to start cleaning it up, and polishing it today I think. If anyone knows how I can tell if the motor has been retrofitted to AC, in spite of the rating label still showing DC 32 volts, let me know. I'm also trying to figure out where I can find a 120v AC to 32v DC converter, if in fact it has not been retrofitted for AC. Andrew |

Great find! That's a rare machine, and for it to be in such good shape is even better! Looks like the owner also had an Air-Way at some point in time. |

Yea now that you mention it, I see that the brush attachment is actually to a different machine. I didn't even notice that last night when I got it home, but it was pretty late by the time I snuck yet another vacuum in the house... best time to prevent being scolded for dragging another dirty cleaner in the house. "You just bought that $1000 Miele, what the hell do you need all these old ugly ones for?" says the boyfriend... BLAH!

The bag was full of vintage chicken feathers, probably from some farm near here... I was sad to not find any chicken bones though. :-) I vacuumed out the inside of the bag with the Hoover GUV, which is so much nicer to do in the garage, vs in the house. That can be a dirty mess! Then I washed the bag in warm water with Woolite by hand, and then rinsed it in some fabric softener also to give the bag a darker, unfaded look. Here is the after photo, I just need to get the final bits of cat fur off it with a lint roller.

I read in one of the threads that rinsing in fabric softener also helps the bag breath and filter better. |

Thanks for the nice comments! It really is rewarding to just stare at your work after you've spent many hours restoring it. I've found my LG washer's Sanitary Cycle (170 F), with a prewash gets all of my microfiber cloths ready for another round of cleaning/detailing. I seem to get them all dirty at least twice before i'm done with just 1 cleaner. (I've been known to polish threads of the screws before... ask Jack!!!) As for the compound and polish, I use Mothers Mag & Aluminum polish for small details, like screw heads etc, I use Zymol Cleaner/Wax for painted surfaces, and for deep polish/buffing, I used some cheap stuff I found at Harbor Freight - works better than the stuff I've been using in the past I got from Sears! I'll have to take a picture of what I use in case anyone else wants to try it. It really worked so much better, wish I'd tried it sooner! I'm going to go over my Kirby Sanitronic again with the new compounds before I put it together. |

Wow... that is quite a different machine than the ones in the first pics. Very nice work! How ever did you fix that wheel? Did you have a donor machine? |

Andrew, it would really be great if you could make it to the convention. I know how much Greg enjoyed meeting you and I know all of us would too. And like Fred said, be sure and bring that beautiful vacuum with you. |

Wow, Andrew, perfect restoration, and what a stunning vac, love the way the nozzle is out front and the detailing of the air holes etc.. the bag looks in great shape for its age which is always a plus!!! Looks very much like a larger Goblin Wizard form the 1940`s just with a wider brush path...looking forward to seeing it run, Mike |
