One of my close friends suprised me with a Hoover 800 this weekend! It was in very good shape for it's age, but the motor was really in need of bearing work. I totally disassembled the motor and cleaned it out, and serviced the bearings. It runs great now!

Here it is after I serviced and cleaned the motor. I've yet to polish it up, replace the wheels, and get a proper bag and bumper for it.

hope you like

my 800. I was ripped off after I sold it. I was supposed to get a rainbow and I had to sell this.

So I wasted my $150 hoover for nothing.

What was wrong with the motor?

Did I miss something?

I don't understand how you were "ripped off"? Nobody made you sell anything, that was your own choice. A friend of mine in Colorado even found your ad to sell it on Craigslist. I'm surprised Andrew didn't find it himself.

Jack, why yes I chose the electric cleaner over the dress. Maybe next payday, I'll be able to afford that dress though...

Tsk tsk, Brandon. You might want to reword that or folks will think this is the very same 800 you decided to auction off on Ebay and didn't have the foresight to set a minimum reserve.

Andrew didn't go for the cosmetics, or the matinee. That Miele S7 in his closet was looking kinda old...

76 years later...

Well, since I received this advert so late, a while 76 years late, $4.50 might get me a couple gallons of gas.

tristar and aeoliandave

Tristar-

I was offered a rainbow E for $40. So I sold my 800 for $40. Then the lady backs out and I lose my most prized vacuum in the house. all for nothing.

Aeoliandave-
I am very happy that vacfanatic got it- he did a great job cleaning it up. And he will bring it back 100%. I could never have done this.

Congratulations, vacfanatic.

Andrew urged me...so I got through the cravings with hard liquor and bought it for him...

But on a serious note, you've done a wonderful job, Andrew! I watched the entire process over several nights on the webcam, so I know how thorough you've been! And I was honoured to be the first to hear it run with its de-gunked, cleaned, and re-packed bearings.

I can't wait to see the rest of your work!

:D :D :D

Excellent Work Andrew!

Looks beautiful and sounds great, too! I always liked the 800 and 825 and although I don't have either one, I do have a 475 and a 300. I think next to the 28, 29, and 63, the "coffee can" Hoovers from the 30's are probably my favorites! Here's a couple pics of my 475.

Pending work...

Thanks Jeff - all I've really done so far is clean and service the inside of the motor. I’ve got lots of polishing to do yet, and I'm probably going to take this to the buffing wheel in my garage. I've got a source for the proper bag for it, some replacement wheels, and possibly a black bumper. I'm going to repaint the handle as well, so I've got a lot of cosmetic work to do on it yet - stay tuned!

magnificent. Well-done !!!!

but, looking at these ads, doesn't it seem that there is a lot of "stuff" in "closets"?
