Ok, so what you have there Alan is a 1951 Model 350 which sold for $119.50 in 1951. The telltale feature is the lettered Filter Queen band around the motor housing and none on the bucket. That bucket is metal, yes? Even your cord looks original as the mid-brown color is just right. Lucky find and the handle is intact as well. The hose couplers (and possibly the yellowish hose itself) and lower J-wand section is from a Salmon pink model 31 a few years later. They look good! Filter Queen tools and the various caster bases are interchangeable on all models. |

Thanks for all the pictures and information Dave! I figured the hose was from a newer model, there was a dust brush from a newer one that I left in the store, and some floor brush bottoms that looked out of place, I'll try to grab them on Monday. There were Electrolux tools included that I left that I didn't need too. And the bucket is metal. The attendant said it sucks like crazy, unfortunately I haven't tried it yet myself.

You can't beat the price! And as Dave said, I believe you will enjoy using it. I also have a model 350, and they are powerful yet quiet, especially if it has the original batting in the top. The foam they sell these days as a replacement doesn't muffle nearly as well as the original batting did, in my opinion. Looks like you'll have your work cut out for you to make it look pretty though. Good luck, Jeff |

Congrats on the cheap yet wonderful find. I always liked vacuums with the curved wands...I wish all of them had that feature. |

... to name a few more. There is something so elegant and just right looking about those Swan's Neck wands as they gracefully exit the hose, swooping down to connect to the floor tool. It may matter but little to some but the fewer abrupt bends in the airway path the more efficient the 'pickupage' and less whistling noise is produced. I also think the tools steer better, particularly under low furniture when the wands are flat to the floor, and the upper J bend falls easier to the hand & wrist while driving. From a purely engineering Stresses and Torque viewpoint the S wand entering the tool on a straight horizontal line puts a more evenly distributed push & pull force on the mating parts than the 45 degree angled pivoting elbows on straight wand machines. The grinding lateral strains can and do wear away the mating surfaces leading to Floppy Tool Syndrome. And well, who needs another floppy tool? Whoopsie-daisy! I just re-read that last bit. Please pardon the unintentional entendre. Picture L>R - Monitor cylinder, Air-Way 55, Air-Way 66 and Air-Way 77 with possibly the longest slowest aluminum j-bend wands. Yes, the Air-way nozzles are not compatibly interchangeable as the wand tip length from the clamp ring is not consistent. Dave, waxing poetic, pontifical and particular on this lovely Easter Sunday morning. Btw, for all the finicky and comfortably semi-authentic restorer's out there, there is a new-this-winter 1/4" half-round tubular rubber self-sticking insulation gasket product available in white, grey, brown and black for doors & windows, at hardware stores, that is ideal for replacing the dessicated nozzle bumper strips, for appearances sake, on vintage Air-Way and similar tool nozzles. As seen on the far right 77 tool. Looks and behaves better than the expensive gray player piano tubing I've been using up to now... |
