Do any of you believe that Hoover could have brought back the Constellation as a limited edition model in celebration of the company's 75th anniversary in 1983, instead of when they brought back said cleaner on the original Connie's 55th anniversary in 2007?

And if they were to have brought it back in '83, how do you think sales of the Connie could have been compared to the 2007 model?

Hmm, a lot of people were still using their original Constellations in 1983. They continued into the 70s as a BOL model, i think.

well, the OLD ones are still great,

that would have been a great idea. IF "they" pushed it now, (perhaps did something with the nozzle) it would triumph again. "Calling TTI, calling TTI WAKE UP TTI".... the SAME thing would happen with a new Convertible... then the Platinum ads singing "At last" would be true.

Well, as Swingette mentioned the Constellation was in production until 1975. The cleaner was originally discontinued in 1970, until millions of people wrote in, and Hoover decided to resume production. Had they revived it in 1983, it would have most likely had more steel. Hoover DID build a Connie with a powernozzle as a prototype that wound up in the Hoover vault, and IIRC, also a Connie (or a Celebrity) made entirely out of lucite.

probably not.

It appears only 1 was ever made. So it will be hard to find pictures.

Constellation w/powernozzle

Unless a former Hoover employee got a photo of it as it was coming out of the vault. It could well be it was one of the cleaners that was discarded of (I know - oh the humanity!) I had heard about this cleaner years ago from Tom Gasko who toured the vault at that time. I'd love to get a vault machine - especially one of the one-off Dial-A-Matic's. I'm kinda surprised the new Constellation didn't have a power nozzle, although I find the turbo tool works quite well.
