I had one of my friends, (I have a specific 3 of them to seek any good vacuum deals when they are out Good Willing, or as we say GW'in.), find this today at the Council Bluffs, IA Good Will. $15.00. She called my friend who called me and said we have an eh-mur-jency! I said what what? Amy found a Kirby at Goodwill, should she get it for you? I of course blerted out YES!!! Anyway, here's some pictures of her before restoration. It should be a fun project!

Nice!

I am interested in talking to you about your vacuums!

Im a 15 year old collecting here in Nebraska. I have a Heritage II legend, G6, and I am getting a compact electra, Electrolux L, an ALL ORIGINAL 518, and a 512!

Do you have a large collection? It would be cool to talk together.

Who else besides Dial-a-nap collect here in omaha?!

That's real nice find, Andrew - all the important parts in great shape, like the new bag, the belt lever shield isn't cracked or gouged and the rubber trim & bumpers look good.

As for the red wheel, sure you'll have a replacement in no time.

Brandon, do as all the newbies should - go to the member profile page and start making lists. And devote some time every night reading the Archives and bookmarking posts of relevant interest. I did and compiled my own data sheets I refer to often.

Dave - a bit obsessed? No, passionate about vacuum cleaners at 56. :-)

Ah, behold the beautiful Kirby Sanitronic VII

Good find, great price, and you'll have a lot of fun with it. I love the sound of the Sanitronic motors, they have a growl unlike any other.

Looks like all you'll have to do is some cleaning and polishing and replace the red wheel and you'll have one beautiful machine. Congrats!

Looks like your Sanitronic will need a new fan-see age cracks in the plastic fan-thats what I HATE about those plastic fans-they crack as they age.I wouldn't run the machine at "hi" hose speed until you can replace the fan.The fan in the machine may "explode"-fly apart from the high hose speed.Would be great if you could get a metal orig fan.Kirby puts the plastic fans in(or another vac tech)sometime during the machines prior life.

Fan/Bearings

vacfanatic's profile picture
Yea I already fired it up, just with the nozzle, no hose, and the fan and or bearings are totally shot! I have already washed the bag with Woolite, turned out very nice. I took the shell off last night and checked the carbons, they have about 1/8" left, so I'll be replacing those also. Overall, it needs a lot of buffing, which I'll do with my bench polisher in the garage when it warms up. I have already sourced replacement wheels, cord, fan pulley kit, bulb, and brushroll. I have to dig up the front bearing plate and rear bearing also. Overall, it will be an easy, fun project! My partner said I should have left it for dead at Goodwill, but he doesnt know the potential it has to live again.

Andrew

After about 4 hours of sanding, and a couple of hours of polishing with the bench polisher, I've almost got the nozzle done. I'll be ordering about $120 in parts for this Kirby here soon. The bumper will be replaced, Kent (Cleaner48 on eBay) is a great source for parts.
