I don't think it is Mike's item,

But the seller is a club member and you can be assured the item listed is exactly as stated.

Thanks

Morgan

Bear with me guys - I'm off sick with severe gastritis. It's agony to sit at this desk, but I'm bored of lying in bed watching Frasier!!

I'm afraid I don't know much about the history of The Dizer. It's made by M.C. Dizer, London, Ltd. It obviously looks a LOT like an Air-Way, but what's interesting about it are not the similarities between the two, but the differences.

As far as I can tell, they don't actually share a single componant! Every piece is slightly different to my Air-Way Fleetwood Special.

As you can see here, the casing to the fan/motor unit is 'backwards'...

As far as I can tell, the fan itself is made of some sort of plastic!

The motor...

This is weird...the suction valve is screwed in on both sides, so you can't move it!

"This is weird...the suction valve is screwed in on both sides, so you can't move it!" - Yes, but with the arrow at the bottom of the celluloid dial, it would definitely seem as if the dial could be turned to divert the suction through the handle, like the Air-Way. The Air-Way has a screw on one side of the dial as well. It may have even had tools. Could possibly this Dizer have been produced after Air-Way's patents ran out? It was such a good design, I wouldn't be surprised at all. Now that their patents expired look at how many "copycats" we now have of the Oreck. There's the Bissell ProLite/Kenmore e4, Hoover Soft & Light, Elektrapure, Maid-Lite, Avanti Homemaker, etc. Is the suction power of the Dizer comparable to the Air-Way Sanitary System? I love this machine! With the painted handle, it is reminiscent of the 1932 Green Goddess.

The dial can be turned to divert the suction down the handle, but that means removing one of the screws, which leaves a hole in the casing. The screw, when in place, goes right through the portion of the dial which turns, which prevents it from moving. Like you say, it's unusual, the 'serrated' edge of the dial looks like it's been designed to give the user a better grip!

I haven't been able to run The Dizer yet, because the wires which connect the motor to the switch on the handle have been removed - as soon as I'm back to full health, I'll replace them and give it a go!

Is it my imagination or is the cord on the Dizer removable as well? From your first picture it appears to have a connector of some sort at the top of the switch casing. That would be an interesting feature.

Jack, (regarding gastritis)

I know exactly how you feel: like someone had kicked you in the stomach!

I had it about a fortnight ago. Doctor prescribed 'lanzoprozole' and after a week I was almost back to my old self.

The course the doctor prescribed me will last 3 months: two months at full power, one month at half power.

Post# 59678 , Reply# 16   2/1/2009 at 07:45 (5,556 days old) by vintagehoover ()

Doug - yes, the cord is removable, similar to the Electrolux cylinders of the time. I'm not entirely sure what the benefit of this feature is, but as you say, interesting!

- Calum: your comment made me laugh, because those are the EXACT words - '...like being kicked in the stomach' - I've been using to explain it to everyone since I got ill! I'm on omeprazole. I'm still feeling pretty weak, I'm allowed bland soups now, but still no solid foods.

Jack

Here's to a speedy recovery. If your stomach is out of sorts, it really pulls you down.

Green Dizer.

I am wondering if anyone can help me. My dad used to work for Hoover years ago, and he was given a green Dizer vacuum. It has never been used, only turnt on to see if it works which it does.
Handbook is immaculate and still readable, also have all accessories including hoover bags.
Just wondering if anyome could tell me a little more about it please. ( looks just like the red one posted above)
