Aerus Electrolux stopped making the original replacement motor for the 1205-ultralux machines so they have come out with the an adapter system which allows the use of the VM3 motor in the older machines. This new system beefs up performance alot! With the new motor you can actually almost get 95" of lift! I just put one in a Diamond Jubliee and the machine is now quieter and has more suction then ever before. The kit costs $218 but if you have a 1205-ultralux metal canister that needs a motor this would be an awesome idea. I can get anyone on here the kit at a little off retail if they want it.

 In more ways than one. Is it Aerus that's offering the kit? If it is, I'm surprised. I would think they would want to sell new machines instead of still offering a service to keep the old ones running. Unless, they were losing business to after-market motor manufacturers. Second, thanks for posting this for us so we know there is an alternative for our daily drivers, and perhaps our collectibles!

Keep em going

 One thing I have found with Aerus is that they are supporting the older machines. As parts run out they are either trying to find sub parts or they are remaking them. Pretty much you can still get most things that you need from most models from the 1205 on up. For example you can still get the shampoo brush for the shampoo attachment for the 1205. The motor kit is an Aerus Electrolux original part so you will be using original equipment in the machine and the motor kit does come with a 5 year warranty through Aerus.

Same motor as in current Aerus canisters

 To my knowledge, this is the same motor that is being used in the Guardian, Legacy, and Classic canisters today. It is a 5.2 inch wide motor, single stage (hence it is not too wide for the SJ series), as compared to the previous two stage 5.7 inch wide motor that was used in the later Silverado models, continuing all the way up until about 5 years ago?? when they switched over to the single stage, 5.2 inch wide motor. This narrower width motor, the few that I have seen, have been made by Domel, don't know if they are the current manufacturer.

Perfect motor retrofit

 Just out of curiosity, has anybody taken the time yet to dismantle a Perfect "lux" canister? Is the motor in that unit of good quality? Would it be possible to retrofit a Perfect motor into say a Super J at a lower cost? I'm not sure if it would be more powerful than the Aerus motor, but probably a vast improvement over a tired Super J motor.

Dismantling a Perfect "Lux" Canister

 Yes, I have dismantled one down to the motor. couldn't get the motor out as I need to buy a different socket set.

The Perfect Lux motor is made by ametek lamb, and is there new advantek series. Supposedly, it is model #122093. Generally, lamb has produced motors of decent quality.

Not only does the Perfect motor eat an aerus motor for breakfast when it comes to performance, it uses it as a tooth pick!! There is no comparison, the perfect motor will pull 115-120 inches, and pull about 9.5 on the baird airflow meter at the hose end, compare that to about 5.5-6 airflow for an aerus motor.

No, you can not put the Perfect motor in a SJ without some modifications to the bulk head, as the SJ motor is about 5.2 inches in diameter, whereas the perfect motor is 5.7 inches in diameter. Having said that, check with ametek lamb, as I do believe they build this newer advantek motor in different diameters.

Guardian motor

 Vernon this is the same motor that is in the Guardian, legacy and classic. I am sure the perfect motor would have more suction and be the better motor. The aerus version would, however, be easier to retrofit into an older machine. I know the kit comes with the mounting ring to fit the bulkheads of the 1205 - ultralux and a new seal and 2"pvc pipe to connect the motor with the bag housing as the new motor is much thinner than the old on.

Good move for Aerus

 I heard rumors that Aerus was going to sell replacement motors for their older models,I do admit I like the older style motors because they are simple to rebuild.
