I would be interested in hearing everyone's thoughts on the Perfect Canister Vacuum (Electrolux Clone). Is it any good? Who makes it? etc. Thanks! Bill

Bill,

The Perfect Vacuum is made by IMIG of New York. It is assembled in China of US, Chinese, and German components. It has the newer designed Ametek advantek motor. These motors run much cooler as the brushes come right after the fan unit, instead of being at the back end near the commutator like all others.

It is like the old lux 1521 canister, without the bag full indicator. The power nozzle is very similar to the lux pn 5. They have done some mods to later model power nozzles as the motors being used are like the current lux pn motor, which the body is not as long, but the shaft is a little longer to compensate. The first version pn was noisey to say the least, kinda had a rumbling sound to it. What they have done with the later version, is right under the motor, a little plastic pole was put in to prevent the shaft end of the motor from moving around. (on the original pn 5, there were two mounting screws at the shaft end, with this newer style motor, the body is not long enough to utilize these two screw holes, as a result this end of the motor tended to bounce around, hence the pole under the motor at this end) These newer versions are a vast improvement in noise level.

Their hepa bags are excellent, I am also using them in my Lux vacs. One thing to point out with these bags, is the cardboard collar is 50% thicker to withstand the extra suction this unit has. Yes, regular lux bags will fit, but the phenomenal suction of this unit can cause the collar to split or cave in. In regards to suction, I have not seen another canister that can put out as much lift and CFM as this one. In fact, on the inches of lift gauge, and the baird airflow meter at the hose end, this vac has beet many built ins at their hose end!!

As long as the components are reliable, the metal construction should take a beating as compared to the plastic crap that is out there today.

Very interesting. I am wondering if anyone here has one that they are using and what they think?

I have one

The unit is a real powerhouse!! The hose is not quite as good as OEM, but for the difference in price, I'd go with the perfect hose. (the gasket that seals the hand grip to the wand could be better, as there can be some air leakage, that's my beef about the hose!), nice having the on/off switch for the powerhead on the hand grip. Noise level is about the same as a lux, around 75 dBa. Brush roll is the chevron double sweep like OEM lux, but i think it is too stiff, so I replaced it. (lux or cleveland woods brushes are softer) If you try a PN2 with it, the older style that does not have any vent holes on the bottom, (compared to most Canadian pn2's that had four vent holes) there is soo much power that the powerhead will get sucked to the floor and you won't be able to push it. Even with vent holes in the pn2, it still get's sucked to the floor. With a PN4, you can feel the resistance. In regards to the amount of lift, I'm getting around 117+/- depending on the amount of current coming through the line and the barometric pressure. (more barometric pressure equals more suction) In regards to aiflow, at the end of the hose on the baird gauge, 9.5. Compare this to the old lux where lift was 75-85, and airflow around 5.5-6.5 (depending which motor was used) I only wish they could've mounted an after filter to catch the carbon brush dust emissions. Having said that, I used a particle counter on it, the emissions were about 1/4-1/3 of a vac that was using a micro lined bag and had a non hepa after filter. The ratings did not change when I tried it with a full and empty hepa bag. Not bad at all, all what is coming through is carbon brush dust, everything else is being trapped. Would I buy one again?? YUP! If you're looking for a simple, no thrills, metal POWERHOUSE, I'd put it on my short list.

Where did you buy yours from Vernon. I think I saw them advertized in the Toronto paper or come to think of it it was on Craisglist or Kijiji. Someone in NB selling them I iirc.

Pete,

I bought mine in the US last may, when I paid about 1.05 on the dollar, and got a steal of a deal.

If memory serves correct, the company that distributes Johnny Vac in Canada, Beaulac?? in Quebec is the Canadian distributor. Try www.johnnyvac.com... Since we Canadians are "special", the plan was to have two models in Canada, one with the power head, the other without, whereas in the US they were to all come with the powerhead. Don't know if this actually happened or not, haven't heard.

Hope this helps!

Vernon
