My favorite...

Although I am not a great fan of plastique, I do favor this Lux over the metal ones. The reasons being: it's smaller size, lighter weight, and more powerful motor. Did I mention that it's noiser too?

I hate mine

I actually have not used it sense I repaired the switch on it. It flips over all the time. and the sides dont seem to want to stay together straight.

Hi Matt...

I remember taking my machine apart to replace the switch as well, then having to fit the sides back together. The switch setup never seemed quite right, to me, using that plastic linkage to turn a simple switch on and off. I like it mainly because it is light weight.

my switch

still never acts right. I think it is useless lol. it sits pretty in my closet. I have a special red one I got from povarello.

We'll have to catch up...

..and maybe I can take a look at your switch. I took mine to an Electrolux dealer who gave me a replacement for the broken plastic part and instructions on how to install it. It seemed a bit tricky...but I think that's how Electrolux's generally are.

in my honest opinion these machines are crap. they seem to be cvery flimsy and all of the parts are made cheaply except fot the ametk motor. I have one that I am looking to get rid of because I do not like it. the vacuum is an electrolux ambassador. I think I might take the motor out of it and replace the motor from my airway 55a with the motor from the ambassador. if anyone wants the leftover parts from the electrolux ambassador such as the whole body of the machine please let me know and I will ship it to you for $25. the power switch on the machine does work
thanks
Mike

Red letter week...

truckerx's profile picture
..I suppose I can safely say that this has been my Red Letter Week for finding Elecrolux's. I found three nice complete machines in various thrift stores.
(1) Diamond Jubilee
(2) Marquis)
(3) Epic w/Sidekick
These are in addition to a beautiful complete Silverado found a few months ago. I'll try to post some photos.
Now?....what to do with all these Electrolux's??????

Bernie it sure has been your week!!! Those Lux's must all be over in your area because I hardly ever see them here. I have the Diamond which I bought new in 1985. A wonderful vacuum. I do like that Silverado, sharp looking machine. IMHO for real cleaning you just can't beat an Electrolux!!

Terry...I really wasn't looking for anything special when browsing the thrift stores. It's more become a retired person's thing to do, if you know what I mean. ;-D
I couldn't let those Lux's sit there in those junky thrift stores without having a good home.
After 15+ years of service, the plastic Lux's are beginning to show up in the thrift stores. I don't think that you can beat a metal Lux for all around quality. The Diamond Jubilee was the last with the chrome top and is a very good looking machine.
It's true; the plastic models do seem flimsy by comparison, but they must be made of fairly good plastic to have held up all this time. I'll admit; the Epic, in solid battle-ship gray, is certainly not a looker.

Well Bernie I still think you had a great week there. Congratulations!!

Thank you, Terry.....

I do appreciate the sentiment. When I lived in Tampa, many years ago, I found much of my stuff at a nearby flea market at a drive-in theatre on Hillsborough Ave. I loved to go there early in the morning. You never knew what you might find in the piles of stuff the vendors would drag in. It was an old-fashined flea market compared to many now that specialize in new Chinese junk.
Do you shop the flea markets or thrift stores near Ruskin?

Strange because I've been finding plenty of electroluxes around here as well lately where before they were scarce as hens teeth. I hate to say it but they're more than likely toss outs or donations after the demise of the original owners. You just can't give them away because people are so foolishly bedazzled by all that flashy new plasti-crap in the stores.
